Neuropathy - Reversing with Complementary Meds. Which ones?

My best friend is a T1 with his diabetes diagnosed at 2 years of age (he started injections at 2 years old, by his mother).

He is now 50, and showing some signs of diabetes damage in some of the main areas.

Question:
He has a small degree of nerve deterioration and is showing the initial signs of neuropathy.

He has a follow up exam in 6 months.

He has asked me what might help.

From experience, can any body suggest anything (that may worked for them) to improve their situation like evening primrose oil or ALA (alpha lipoic acid)?

ALA can be very effective in healing neuropathies. The form your friend needs is R-ALA. Alpha lipoic acid has been used by prescription in Germany for many years for neuropathy. It helps by regenerating the myelin sheath of nerves . ALA can cause lowered BG, so something he should be aware of.

I used ALA for a dog with neuropathy about 8 years ago. It helped him tremendously. The vet rolled her eyes that it would do anything. Glad I rarely listen to doctors.

Thanks Gerri.
Yes, the thing about these ‘other’ medicines that vets (and most other western medicine practictioners) forget is that ‘indeed’ there are systems of medicines like ‘traditional’ or ‘complimentary’ medicines that might actually work!!(hence the eyes rolling).
But of course, users of these therapies should only go for the ‘time-tested’ and time-proven’ remedies that have a ‘long history’ of usefulness and importantly ‘long history of safety’.
Thanks for the reply.

Agree. Can’t say there’s a placebo effect with a dog. I’ve become immune to the eye-rolling:)
