New ADA paper on Type 1 D care throughout their lifetime

The ADA published a new position paper on T1D treatment plans in their latest issue of Diabetes Care.
Type 1 Diabetes Through the Life Span: A Position Statement of the American Diabetes Association

Most if it "we" in this community would say "yeah we know that" but this makes a firm point to the Insurance companies/medical providers that T1's are distinctly different in treatment goals and needs from T2 patients. Currently most insurance companies just lump us into the category of "Diabetes" without differentiation between types.

One major note I took away from this can be found on pages 11-12, mainly the recommendations for BG testing. I'll let you read it for yourselves. All I can say about it is "Hallelujah"!

Thanks, Kevin, for posting this--it is a great position statement, with so much common sense packed in! And from the ADA no less, who in my opinion has been less than helpful to people with Type 1 diabetes, especially those with adult-onset Type 1 diabetes. Much of the information in this position statement came from the ADA/JDRF Type 1 Diabetes Sourcebook (Anne Peters, MD, and Lori Laffel, MD, MPH, Editors. 2013); I wrote about some of the gems from that book.. It is great that they promote the need for access to test strips and correlate testing with better A1c's.

Awesome. Thanks for the link.

As will be heard repeatedly throughout the Revolution --

"YAY! More ammunition!!"

This is great news... especially the parts of about testing etc. My father mentioned this article last night. Thanks for posting this!

"Hallelujah"! is right!

From what I can tell of insurance company policies, they seem to follow ADA guidelines. Meaning the low end, that is why the repeated 10+ recommendations in this position paper along with why that many times is important is possibly huge for us.
