New Dex User -- Looking for Help with Insertion and Site Rotation

Really? I was gifted a bunch of large tegaderm - 1/2 fits perfectly over the sensor and extends beyond the adhesive. I’ve been cutting holes in them for the transmitter. Sure would be easier not to!

Yes, I was cutting holes as well. That’s when someone told me I didn’t need to. So far, my readings have still been really good.

I remember someone else mentioning when water got under the transmitter they would get the dreaded ???. Maybe if you cover it and you are a naturally sweaty person this may cause the ??? to rear it’s ugly head and that is why Dexcom says don’t cover it? I am not a sweaty person so maybe that is why it is never a problem for me? Just taking a wild stab at the reason why Dexcom says don’t do it.

Just an update. I have been wearing the sensor about 2 inches below the belt on the backside. It’s been working great. Good numbers and no ???. The last one lasted 13 days before I switched it out. The adhesive started to fall off and I’m going on vacation next week and didn’t feel like dealing with tape. The other good thing (for me) is that it fits under my swim suit (I swim 3 times a week) and the suit protects it from the water pulling it.

In other news, I tried it on my leg and it was horrible. Never again.

Really? On the side of your butt? I can’t imagine. I wear mine on the side of my stomach above the pant line, my DE put the test sensor there and I had no issues with it. I have my own system now and put the first one there, this is only day 2 but I have no issues with it, I can’t even feel it.

The needle is big but doesn’t sting much for me, it is only there for a few seconds then it is gone.

Glad Richard mentioned this group. I am new to the system and probably will have lots of questions.

When I started using the Dex I was putting it in my stomach and my hips, too, and it hurt 24/7. It also died much more quickly (i.e. I could never get a sensor to last past one week). I never managed to make either of those sites work comfortably. However, then I started putting my sensors in the backs of my arms and wow! No pain (except when initially inserting). I would highly recommend you try this.

As for site rotation, when I was on the OmniPod and the Dex, I would use my arms for the Dex and change arms every time I changed the sensor (once every 2 weeks). During those two weeks on one sensor, I would put my Pod on my hips/abdomen/lower back on the same side so I could sleep on one side without having either of these gadgets to bother me. I just did a little circle with the pods, moving from middle of stomach, to side, to hip, to lower back, etc, always staying at least 2 inches from the last site. When I switched the sensor after two weeks, I also switched sides with the pods. This seemed to work really well for the 18 months that I was using both systems together.
