I’ve heard of a device that’s more like an alarm system…it has a wireless unit that you can carry in your pocket and alarm sounds if blood sugar is too high or low. Still new. Has anyone been using this? I have an 18 year old son who is athletic and WON’T use the pump. Finally got him onLantus, but his blood sugar control isn’t the best. Any suggestions?
I believe that most, if not all, CGMs have high and low alarms on them
I just went on the dexcom 7 a few days ago and absolutely love it! It checks my sugar every 5 minutes so that is 265 times a day. Being that I am super actice with my sports and being a trainer, it gives me peace of mind to have a device that will make managing diabetes easier! I’m curious to see how this device will impact my A1C’S!!
I wear one (just started on it this week but have been trying to get insurance to approve one for 5 months). What you’re talking about is called a “continuous glucose monitoring system” and there are (currently) three companies who market them.
This link here is very helpful in explaining what they are, how they work, and which companies make them.
I wear the Navigator by Abbott.
