I believe that the FB guy is probably using the smaller pod right now and probably loves it and probably thinks we are all getting them this summer. But that doesn’t make it true that they are ready to ship in a few months. I think the link in the OP is clear and is the most reliable info…btw, I’m skeptical about the blue canula, too!
Yep, I’d love a smaller pod just like the next girl. But I am not holding my breath
do you think the FB guy is getting confused with the US and the UK? In the conference call it mentioned YPSOMed getting their shipment end of June if everything goes ok. Its easier to get things passed in the UK it seems, lol.
Just a though about the new pods and PDM which may make me move away from Omnipod!
I currently use a navigator cgms which the chip thingy in the arm works for 5 official days, after the 5 days it is possible to restart the cycle again to save money! If the pods come with built in CGM I dont know how it or if it would be possible to continue or restart the CGM cycle once it has expired? so unless omnipod reduce the cost dramatically its something I will have to think hard about!
I think you are a little confused about the next gen pod. First, It will be partnered with Dexcom and I am unsure if it is possible to restart a dex transmitter. I had the Navigator as well and hated it and the company so I took advantage of the refund. I waited for months for a replacement and as you know the parts still are not available over a year later.
Also, It is my understanding that there will be two items to be attached to your body. The pod and the CGM transmitter. I think it would be quite a challenge to have the same site provide insulin and read BS levels. That seems like a logistical nightmare. Imagine what your readings would be like.I do recall someone telling that it will still be two devices albeit a smaller pod.
The smaller pod is the first step and then we will potentially get the new Dexcom integrated device. Based on FDA time lines I would not expect the double device anytime soon.
If we are lucky we will get the smaller pod this year. I am not optimistic about anything to do with the FDA. They are just another poorly run disorganized branch of gov’t. They miss the big mistakes and postpone real improvements in the name of safety concerns which are not evident. WHy insulet needed to file 7800 pages is a joke. Does anyone think they are going to review all the pages?
Bottom line, enjoy the pod and do not worry about having to switch anytime soon.
I didnt realise the Transmitter would be a another item to insert, I just assumed it would be part of the new pod, but that makes sense, as you said the reading would be miles off!!
Im in the UK and we have the next gen Navigator, its not so bad and items are easily available here which is great! I just find if I get dehydrated the navigator goes crazy and doesnt know what its doing! also if I lay on the transmitter for some reason it thinks im hypo, lol
I looked at getting the dexcom but was put off by its transmitter where its not rechargeable and has to be replaced every year-ish! That would work out to much of a cost for me as I have to fund my omnipod and my cgms myself with no support, I guess at least I get the insulin to put in it free, so when the pod fails its not so much of a concern of losing the insulin as it would be if I was in the states
Fingers crossed we will get the new smaller pod here in the UK starting the end of next month (apparently!) but I will wait and see, lol.
