Yesterday I talked to a Omnipod Clinical Specialist, and she told me that Insulet is working in a new pod. This new model will be smaller than the actual pod and you will be able to use it with the new and old PDM model. She told me that this is supposed to be out in the market before summer 2010.
Thanks for that update…Hope it works comes true…

I will love a smaller pod! Thanks for sharing.
A smaller pod would be fabulous!!! I pretty luck because I have to wear a lab coat at work and people don’t usually see the pod, but when I’m not wearing the lab coat I am getting sort of annoyed with everyone asking what that large lump under my clothes are!!! I hope it comes out sooner rather than later!!
integrated CGM would be sweet!
We were told the new one is waiting on FDA approval and is 42% smaller than the current model. We were told the follow up model would contain both insulin and CGM in the same pod. Guess we’ll see hopefully soon.
YEAH, I can’t wait!
I would love a smaller pod integrated with a CGM. But I’m wondering…does Insulet already have the software ready to install in the 2nd generation PDM that many of us just ordered? Or are they going to bring out a 3rd generation PDM that will display the results of the integrated CGM along with the functions of the 2nd generation PDM?
Mayumi
I’m guessing that the 2nd gen is hardware-ready and will only need software download for CGM. I wonder whether they will offer the option to pick Dexcom or Nav from the get-go or whether they’ll roll one out before the other. I’m assuming the CGM sensor will be separate from pod.
Yes the sensor will be separate from the pod an it will be Dexcom.
does smaller pod mean it’s going hold less insulin? hope not.
Insulet says, still 200 units.
I tried to copy a picture of the new smaller Pod and was unable to do so. When I figure this out I will post the pictures.
I was told that the 2nd generation PDM will only need a program download and you can choose either Dexcom or Navigator. Also I was told the CGM will be separate from the pod.
Ooooh I can’t wait!
Of course once it comes out we will all be whining and moaning like we always do, “this is different” “that is diffent” “we are change resistant” (I’ll admit, I do it too!)
From what I hear, it’s going to be fabulous! Accourding to my educator they should have prototypes (if not samples) at the Seattle Diabetes Expo in May!
Daisy, if you’ve seen it, how is it different? Is it the same shape, or have they re-invented it?
awesome!!! i cant wait… =)
Oooooooooooooooo!
So cool to actually see it!
The picture isn’t showing up for me. Can you host on a website and post a link?
picture doesn’t come through for me … is there any other way you can let us know what it looks like?
