I initially felt very similar to Judith. I remember thinking “woah, this is jacked up” while I was getting used to it. I still don’t know what the WP vs. Discourse thing is. I’m not a huge chat person, but have buzzed by there to play with it, in case there’s ever a video/ event that I can catch and it seems to work ok, although some of the chatters also seem annoyed by the site.
Once the Dtopics started churning on discussion groups page, I warmed up to it and now I don’t totally remember what old Tu had that this one doesn’t, other than groups, which I also thought sort of pulled folks out of the churn. I have a shortcut to the tudiabetesorg/forum on my Chrome desktop (or whatever it’s called…) so getting here has become easy now that it seems to work too. I find this site easier on my eyes and like typing at the bottom of a window maybe because it’s in the wheelhouse of my bifocals?

Yes. Pretty much the point I was trying to make. You compare the old versus new site from your perspective of familiar workarounds, not with the fresh eyes of someone coming to it for the first time. For you the old site was comfortable. For me it was actually very off–putting.
In fact, I disliked the old website so much that I did leave Tu because of it. More exactly, after I created my account 7 years ago I did not stay around to use it. The layout of the site then, well … it hurt my eyes?
I remember thinking something along the lines of “What the …?!? How the heck is this supposed to work?!? Where are you supposed to go? How do you find anything?” ■■■■!
Back then, I didn’t have either time or patience to waste on trying to figure it out. So I just went away.
Obviously I eventually found my way back & persevered. But as I mentioned above, Tu currently has over 14,000 user accounts. I assume most of the people who created those accounts have also just given up and left. I wonder how many accounts lapsed into disuse for reasons similar to mine?
Judith, I’m never really sure what it is you are trying to say about old vs new. If you are primarily expressing your personal discomfort, frustration, and anger from having an unwelcome change forced on you, then I am sure every single one of us here can and does emphasize with you. After all, we first found our way here in large part because a very unwelcome change was forced upon us.
But if you are saying that only the familiar is good. That any change which is uncomfortable is bad. If you are saying that something should be wrong for all of us because you feel it is wrong for you … well, I am less supportive of that perspective. It’s unfortunately a very human way of viewing the world. But I don’t consider distrust & loathing of the unfamiliar to be one of humanity’s better attributes.
hahahaha, I’m relatively new year. I created an acct months ago and didn’t like it enough to remember I created an acct. i came back here and glad I did. Both sites was hard on my eyes. Diabetic Retinopathy sucks and right now I can’t read much.

Interesting, Pastel. I had no idea, though it makes perfect sense in that context! Has it changed a lot in 40 years? Do a significant number of the abbreviations carry over from a lawyer’s office? But I’ve never texted and don’t have the kind of phone that can do it, so it is a new language to me…
Dear John. No, I am not saying that only the familiar is okay. And I got over all self-involved idiocies about being the center of the universe when I was about 16. And I have never had any patience with comparative misery…
Thanks, Acid, for encouragement…“Perseverance furthers and the superior woman triumphs.” says the I Ching, more or less!..Onward
