Non diabetes topics

I have something I wanted to post here for everyone at tu that isn't diabetes related.. it's about the health of your cats/dogs/pets. Is there a forum where I can do that here or can I just post it in the general forum?

You could post it in this group if you don't want to post it here. Pets and People

People do sometimes post non-D topics in the general forum. There also is a pets group which would be more specific but reach less people.

There is a forum that has lots of non diabetes related stuff:

thanks everyone I will post it in the pet and other forum when i have time.. it's about the drug convenia.. my darling Angie died in part due to this and there have been many deaths and severe reactions in cats and dogs.. please don't every use this drug!

I'm so sorry about your Angie! What is the drug used for?

Thank you Zoe, it is a long acting antibiotic injection which stays actively in the system for 2 weeks and then stays in the body for 64 days... very dangerous because if there is a reaction, there is no way to remove it. Angie became severely anemic which is one of the side effects.. I will post a more detailed discussion of what happened later. If your cat or dog has been given convenia you can try to use probiotics such as benebac or forti flora to stop or help them overcome a reaction.

I'm somewhat leery of dog meds. Izzy's vet was very "jazzed" when she reached 10 lbs and could have the bigger heartworm pill but the bigger one, maybe 10 mg, seems to throw her off which, in turn, makes me think that the vet process is rather imprecise. Dogs are sort of tough and sleep a lot anyway so, if the dog gets stoned out of her gourd, well, it's not a huge difference from usual but the GI side effects are pretty nerve-wracking for everybody, including the dog.

You're smart to be leery of them.. we need to research all drugs given to our cats and dogs because the dvm don't do that and they won't warn us about possible serious reactions and side effects.. I would go with the lower dose if I were you. Animals are much more sensitive to drugs than we are for the most part I think.

Thanks Gary, I posted there when Angie passed and forgot about it.. but I hadn't done a necropsy then yet and did not mention Convenia.

Thank you Karen, when I get some time I will post here also. I want as many people to see this as possible.
