Cathy, I thought you had more than just neuropathy, but I’m glad it was gout instead of Charcot foot. Gout is much easier to treat. So glad to hear that you’re feeling better!
xring,
Thanks for sharing the information on the B12. I was unaware of the Methylcobalamin.
hi everyone…
as of late, i have been ‘traveling’ down this dark and bumpy road known as charcot joint disease. was first diagnosed with several fractures in the metatarsal phalangeal joint and was placed in a non-weight bearing fiberglass cast for 10 weeks. returned to ortho surgeon and was sent for MRI since things did not seem to be a whole lot better. the following week was told that MRI revealed charcot joint anthropathy so immediately was placed back in a fiberglass cast. are we having fun yet??!! it was pure hell as i am (was) somewhat claustrophobic and really had to work past having the cast 24/7. charcot foot is not a diagnosis i was expecting, not at all. i was/am terrified and understand that i could be in this cast for a very long time. am presently in a wheelchair, but i can ‘balance’ and ‘pivot’ to get from the wheelchair to the sofa/bed/shower, etc. the one thing i can say is follow your doctor’s orders PRECISELY and keep tight control of the blood sugar. the past 3 weeks mine has been 80-125 and i am a type 1 diabetic on an insulin pump and using humulin U-500, it has been very hard but i am determined NOT to lose my foot. in my younger days i was very active, tennis scholarship to college, etc., but now i am faced with the unthinkable, losing my foot. i have 3 very young grandaughters that i want to keep up with so i am following my doctor’s instructions. evidently, i walked on a fractured foot way too long which caused all these problems. if anyone has lingering/constant foot issues and/or pain, please see your doctor immediately. charcot foot is really brutal and must be looked into immediately.
