Any podders out there try apidra yet? I read it’s faster acting, and shorter length of action… We are struggling with waiting 20_ 30 minutes. Before eating as out endo recmends
I use Apidra with my pod, used Humalog before that. I don't find Apidra to be faster acting, but it does get out of the system quicker. That helps avoid stacking insulin with corrections. I still have to prebolus when eating a higher carb meal, otherwise I generally don't see results before an hour.
I'm pretty sure Lorraine's son Caleb uses Apidra in his pod
I use Apidra in my pod and it works pretty quickly for me as long as I’ve counted my carbs correctly. I have never used any other fast acting outside of whatever they gave me in the hospital at Dx. I don’t recall the name but remembered still having numbers in the 300s two hours after meals so they sent me home with Apidra
We do indeed Pod with Apidra, as do Bradford and Melissa and several others that I know.
I'd like to look into this too. A few days ago we pre-bolused breakfast about 90 minutes to bring down a morning high in the mid-200s! And that was after a correction right when son woke up.
Son uses Novolog.
This is one of our earlier experiences with Apidra. We continue to have similar experiences on an ongoing basis.
Lorraine, thanks for posting your blog! We are trying Apidra right now! Son had his Endo visit yesterday, A1C-6 (SD not so tight though), anyway just asked for a sample and it was in my hand in 5 minutes, cool, can't wait to see if it makes a difference. School mornings there is no time to prebolus and usually spikes to high 100s/low 200s at 2 hours and then slides in lunch with a lowish number. This is where I hope it helps the most. Thanks again.
i'm on MDI's, going towards a pump, and also on Novolog (which is supposed to be faster than humalog, so I've heard). I too have to wait a good hour or 90+ minutes to bring down a high. I'm now waiting, even if I'm like 80's per-meal at least 20 - 25 minutes after injection to eat, seems I could wait an hour and nothing would happen. Sometimes I'm just SO hungry and want to eat..if I don't wait, my 1 hr. ppl spikes really high. I too am going to try Aprida.
Emily...will you please keep us posted as to how the trial Aprida is working? I'm asking for it next week. Sometimes, we just want to EAT like everyone else and not wait, wait, wait..!
Fantastic...thank you so much, I'm gonna try it! Caleb is a doll!
As it goes so far today, it looks like Apidra does jump on board quickly and doesn't bottom out even at the 3 1/2 mark before lunch. He bolused 10 minutes before lunch BS-91 and is 94 now with fingerstick and 78 with down arrow with CGM (taking in to account it's delay, but decided to check anyway); this was 30 minutes after eating. Will post how we progress, it was a pretty carby lunch (bread, chips, cookie and a piece of See's candy) at 84 carbs; it should be a good test to see what Apidra does for a potential spike. :)
that's so great! thanks for posting.
Yum on that lunch :). I'd love to eat that, my Endo would be thrilled if I did, but these dang spikes and drops...Aprida...here I come.. :) Something's gotta be better then this. Is your son using the Omnipod too? I'm deliberating on that or the Revel w/CGM????
Happy New Year, indeed! :)
That was only the part of the lunch that accounted for that many carbs; he had stuff on his sandwich and raw vegis too. Ha Ha. I'm making all kinds of tapas for New Year Eve dinner at home, that will be challenging too. Keep you posted. I agree too, Caleb's a cutie, he looks very easy going, like Nate; it's helpful when they have so much to handle. :)
yes...i've seen nate, he too is an inspiration all the children are, really!
OMG, i just saw this, have you seen this vid..tears rolling down my face..never under estimate the power, love and dedication of an animal and their unconditional love towards their owner, huh..this is a beautiful thing. Good luck w/tonight.
Thanks T1Gal, watched for :47 seconds before my laptop choked on it, have to see it all later on our desktop when I get back from the grocery store. What an amazing story so far!
