I was doing my blood tests with the one touch ping glucometer and my supply ran short.I started using another glucometer called Medisure(only in Canada)because I was using more strips than my insurance could provide. But I will use my Freestyle Lite when I can reorder. It takes 6 seconds and only requires .06 microliters of blood like the Freestyle except for 1 second difference..The visibility in the sun is another reason why I don't like the One Touch.I will still bolus from the glucometer and do corrections with it but when it comes to testing,it is not very handy.Anyone else feel this way?
It took a little adjustment for me to go from my Accu-chek aviva to the one touch. But the convenience of doing everything in one step from the meter/remote is too good to give up in my opinion. (I also like using it to see history of blood sugars and boluses). But, hey, if you hate it and your system works for you, then it's all good!
When I got my Ping I still had a lot of test strips for my old meter, and since they cost me less I have mostly been using my old meter. I can now get the strips for the Ping at the same cost as the ones for my old meter, so I am now enjoying the convenience of just using the one. It is also faster and uses less blood than my old meter. I still have my old meter and some strips for backup, but I bacially like the Ping meter and the convenience better than my old one. I do agree that the readability of the Ping meter could be a bit better, but for me the other plusses outweigh that one inconvenience.
I have never liked the One Touch system, & am not going back to it now that I have the Ping. I just started carrying the OT meter along with my Freestyle meter so I can have the food database. Inconvenient! I am actually not happy at all with the Ping & wish I had my 2020 back! When I ordered the Ping I was told that I could use the pump like my 2020, but that is not true since they took away the ability to load the food database which is the primary reason I loved my Animas pump. I am looking for a bag to make it easier to tote the 2 meters now.
I am still happy with the Ping even though I don't like the glucometer.I find not having to touch my pump to bolus is the major issue why I went with it.
I never liked the Ping meter...too hard to read. I got the pump because the screen is so easy to read. So I just use my old OT meter and manually enter data into the pump and bolus manually.
I agree with Kathy. I LOVED my older Animas pump and thought the Ping would be the same, but it isn't. Only advantage: screen is in color. Disadvantage: they took the food database off the pump, so the only way to calculate is to use the One Touch meter. I don't have insurance, thus the One Touch strips cost 4x the amount of my generic TrueTrack test strips, which I use instead... but getting that info then into the pump database is inconvenient. It's not necessary, really, just that my dr. likes to 'see' all the data and my TrueTrack meter doesn't download at all. Sometimes wish I still had the old Animas IR 1250 back.
