Post meal reading

How much on an average does your post meal bs go up? What do you consider a safe # at the 2 hour mark? Is it o.k. to be up by 30pts., ie. when I tried a piece of wasa it went up 30 pts. It was in the 140’s, is that so bad?

I subscribe to Jenny Ruhl’s bloodsugar101 when it comes to postprandial numbers so my target is <140 at 1 hour and <120 at 2 hours. In reality with diet and exercise schedules, lunch is my biggest swing with fasting at 95, 1 hours >120 and 2 hour >105. I exercise 30 minutes after breakfast and dinner so those postprandial numbers are always under 100 (but my wife says I’m psycho about my BG). IMO, the 140, 120 rule is good and should give you good fasting numbers and will lead to an overall better A1c.

I spike sometimes past 160-180 1 hr post meal depending on what I eat and when I bolused for it. Sometimes I hardly spike at all. It all depends on the factors involved. But normally at 2 hours you cant tell I ate at all. Unless its chinese…Then I prepare for a good night of fun (My dad once told me that sarcasm will take you far in the world)

I haven’t tried Chinese since my dx. man i miss orange chicken. I used to go to this very very authentic Chinese place in LA (ducks hanging in the window and everything) and they have the best fried rice and Singapore noodles in the world. I may have to go there for my 1 year d-versary and just blow it for night.

Thats the spirit!!! Wait what?!?!?

The thoughts that just came to mind lol

Hell, how about every night? and before bed i’ll have a loaf french bread with plate of brie cheese. Guess i need to stop off at the store on the way home!

Now we are cooking with gas!!!

Actually that bread and Brie sounds really good right now…maybe not a whole loaf though!!

Get some brie, and some rye Wasa crackers, and you’re almost there! lol

Ive tried the wasa, but just not the same for me. I have found good substitutes for alot of my cravings, but there is just no substituting a warm loaf of artisan bread. Hard on the outside, chewy and soft on the inside. yum. but hell, i dont need bread to eat a good cheese so at least i still have that!

BTW, we have taken this post way off topic :stuck_out_tongue:

Is the thread officially hijacked?

Black Sesame Ramen, have only ever had it in Tokyo. Mmmm. Find authentic black sesame ramen stateside and I’ll be your bestest friend for life, or maybe I’ll just hate you for it, cause that’s kissing my postmeal BG goodbye.

Indeed…Indeed. Leave it to us to sidetrack a perfectly good thread!!!

Its like on Family Guy (On the fat guy episode with James Woods) when Peter says they have to catch the fat guy killer he tells them “When we catch this guy he is toast!!!” And all the guys look up and one in the back said “Mmmmm warm buttery toast!!!”

I dont know why I thought of that…?

LOL. I haven’t see that episode, but i can imagine Peter, Cleveland and Quagmire in that position. You can also see Homer Simpson in the same scenario. Mmmmm …Toast.

Try to aim for under 140 at one hour post. With most foods, this won’t be too hard to do. Some foods like Chinese will throw you through the roof though (i should know, as i love the stuff!). Usually if i’m 80 before i eat, i’ll be 110ish an hour afterwards, and then around 100 or 90 two hours after.

Hope this helps. Kinda groggy… just woke up!

I don’t measure at one hour (god knows I poke myself enough!) but at two hours I aim to be under 140 and most of the time I succeed. I don’t really think in terms of how many points I go up. Maybe I do indirectly because if I am higher than usual before a meal (say 125) I know I probably won’t stay under my target goal, so I will add in a unit.

On the off-topic topic, I cook my own Asian dishes because then I know for sure what’s in them. Still, I miss the noodles more than the rice. I used to work in a crappy neighborhood in SF (The Tenderloin for those who know) but the good thing about it was it was filled with little family run Vietnamese places where I could have wonderful wide rice noodles for about $4.99. Ok, that was a “few” years back!

Mr. Burns: For god sakes, man. Use an open-faced club. The sand wedge.
Homer: Mmmmm… open-faced club sandwich.

YOUR HIRED!!! Can you start on Monday??? (come cook for me!!!)

Do you think our BS can go up by craving this stuff and remembering how good it was? YUM buttered toast! LOL
