Okay…hope I am doing this in the right place! Anyways…my 3 year old has been on an animas pump for almost two weeks. We did injections almost a year and a half before this. I am not loving the pump…yet! Twice, I have had to do an infusion site change because the insulin was not getting to her and I don’t know why. We are using the contact detach infusion set. We’ve had the site come out during bath time, come out while playing at McD’s, and the tubing is crazy to me. She wakes up and it’s all over her tummy. I feel like we have to be more fragile with her now. She has 2 brothers and is very rough and tumble. It just looks uncomfortable to me and I am having a hard time with this. My husband will not let me give up on the pump yet so I am hoping some of you can encourage me. I miss the freedom she had to play rough when she had nothing attatched to her. Any help?
Hello, i’m not familiar with the pump your daughter is using. My pump comes with adhesive patches that can be put on over the canula once in place that helps keep it from coming out during rought play. I’m an adult with T1 and have worn the pump for over 11 years. i am not as active as your little ones but understand your concerns with tubing and infusion site issues. I was diagnosed at age 3 & i honestly don’t know how my parents handled it all. of course in 1962 there were no pumps, glucose meters, etc to contend with but then we really didn’t have anything at all for controlling the disease well. You are doing things correctly and are monitoring your daughter to ensure few to no pump mishaps occur. I understand too that you feel bad for your daughter because she seemingly can’t play like she used to. My parents worried about all these things too. You always will, but then again, you’re a mom! Special precautons must come into play now for your daughter & through time everyone in the family and friends will understand new rules or guidelines for things – even playing! Keep up the good work and try to stay on the pump. i think your daughter’s health will hold up much much better with it. God Bless
