Hello all, so I’ve started tresiba which has been working for me better than Lantus , however , it isn’t covered through my employers prescription plan. Does anyone know if you can get just prescription coverage from other sources?
My insurance won’t cover Tresiba but I like it so much I pay out of pocket. You can get this savings card to reduce the cost drastically.
In my case I pay $99 to get 4 pens. That is partly based on how much insulin your doctor prescribes. (If you take more, you may get more for the same price).
This savings card is just a website form, you get an email with the card. You should be able to use this with any pharmacy.
Thank you!
Also Costco has a pharmacy plan for people not insured, underinsured, high deductible, etc. They basically will give you the prescription at a reduced rate if your insurance doesn’t cover it. The program is free, but I think you might have to be a Costco member.
Thank you!
Using this link, can get combo of Novodisk insulins, cash pay wo insurance (not on drug plan). I have used for both novolog and tresiba for past 3 years.
Tell your doc tresiba isn’t covered and ask about similar medications that are on your insurance formulary. Toujeo and Levemir come to mind as a possibilities.
GoodRx. You would have to look up the specific med to see how much it is at various stores in your area, but all you need is a prescription, no insurance.
Thank you!
You’ve probably considered this, but, the employer sponsored drug formulary that rules what my insurance covers has Tresiba as NF (no way, now how will they cover it). But insulin degludec is covered, no problem, and cost-free to me. Degludec is a generic version of Tresiba and both are made by Novo Nordisk.
The last time I tried to refill my degludec Rx Walgreens repeatedly put it through as Tresiba and it was repeatedly refused as “not covered”. Walgreens was tone-deaf as to their mistake. I am no longer with Walgreens.
Thank you! I will check and see if generic is covered!
Hi , i read the suggestion to try the generic. Great idea!
What area/ where do you live? If not coveted by employer’s benefits, can you apply for them to start?
I’m in central CT. It’s looking like they don’t cover generic either so I’ll try a discount place out of pocket. Thanks good idea! I’ll see if I can apply.
From what I understand, you can access Costco pharmacy without a membership - sort of a public service on their part.
Thank you! I may have to do that. My insurance isn’t covering it or offering the generic
@artwoman You’re right, you can access the pharmacy and not be a member. Costco pharmacy is usually cheaper than anywhere else. We first ran into that when we had a dog that needed an expensive script and the Vet told us that Costco had the cheapest price. But Costco Pharmacy also has a program you can sign up for free and they will sell you scripts even cheaper if you don’t have insurance or have a high deductible. For some reason I think for that program you might have to be a member. I’m not sure, but if you don’t have insurance, it’s not covered by insurance, or have a high deductible, be sure to ask about it.
You can also check GoodRX for dexcom and other RX, with discounts, and compare which has lowest cost in your area.
