Has the occlusion alarm gone off? Set it to H and see what happens.
I can think of 2 other things that would cause you to wake up high… The first that might cause you to wake up high is going to bed with high BG levels (or the BG level rises from improper bolus.) Do you eat and bolus a little before going to sleep? I suppose this could happen if the pump malfunctions.
The other possibility could be the Somogyi effect. Basically, your BG drops in the middle of the night, causing a hypo, and you get “rebound hyperglycemia” from a natural increase of hormones trying to correct the hypo.
Before making too many adjustments, I would make sure the pump is functioning properly.
i sometimes eat and bolus a little but it is usually in a normal range and what does occlusion do?? and is a somogyi effect similar to a liver dump?? i have never known myself to have anything like that i should also point out that i have gastroperosis
An occlusion alarm goes off when the pump senses a blockage… essentially, the pump senses too much pressure… 75 kPa typical, 241 kPa max. (for the record I have no idea how much pressure that actually is).
And yes, from my understanding, the Somogyi effect is the liver overreacting to a low BG level while you sleep
Sometimes the sensor in the Animas pump detects the presence of a cartridge earlier than other times and the piston rod stops a little sooner than usual. When that happens, it may require a larger prime volume . . . and it is not considered a problem. It would be best, however, to call pump support, as they can help you know what is going on.
Opened vials, whether or not refrigerated, must be used within 28 days. If refrigeration is not possible, the open vial in use can be kept unrefrigerated for up to 28 days away from direct heat and light, as long as the temperature is not greater than 77°F (25°C).
I’ve noticed that if the insulin is not cold it’s easier for me to fill into the cartridge, less air bubbles for some reason. I use mine up withing two weeks so I just keep mine out on the desk with the other pump supplies. As far as the sets not wanting to prime, wow that’s gotta suck, that’s never happen to me. Have you contacted Animas to let them know there’s a defect? They should give you new sets and possible do a recall.
