Problems with high blood sugar readings first thing in the morning

Anyone else have this problem? For the past three weeks, I wake up in the morning, check my blood sugar, and it’s 125, 130, yesterday it was 139. I eat breakfast and an hour later it’s the usual 125-135 or so. All the rest of my daily readings are also perfectly fine. It doesn’t matter whether or when I’ve had a snack before bedtime, or even what that snack might be. I’m not sick, and no signs of inflammation that should cause this. I know this is the liver’s “dawn dump” or whatever it’s called, but 139??? I take Metformin 500 mg. twice daily plus a very low-carb diet, which enabled me to have the very nice A1c reading of 5.9. If this keeps up, though, I won’t have that kind of reading again.

My mornings run anywhere from 110 to 180 regardless of what I eat, don't eat, exercise or what phase the moon is in.

A fatty snack before bed makes it on the lower range for me. I've actually got an appt with the dr. next week to see what can be done about it.

Hello - in response - sorry this is so long!

I am, and always have been a fit, slim healthy person. I was misdiagnosed with type 1 diabetes two years ago - because they couldn't believe I was a type 2 - too young, too slim etc...

And so the doctors put me straight on drugs. My diabetes was BAD - I had clearly had it for a very long time and thought it was a gluten intolerance - and no doctor I went to checked my blood sugars... my sugars were through the roof.

I was on insulin first and then weaned myself off it when I was correctly rediagnosed by my dad ( who s an endo) and my NEW endo as a weird type 2.

I too had problems with my liver " dumping" while I was on Metformin.

I was very fortunate to have had a dad as an endocrinologist all my life... so I was used to not listening to him! .... and going off and doing all my own research.

Then I realised - myself - of course my liver is going to going slightly crazy if I'm taking a drug that is keeping my sugars down - but messing up my liver to do so. Our bodies are sensitive; everything works in unison like a great symphony - you pop a pill that controls one thing - something else will be pushed out of balance. My strong belief now is that our bodies really do have the capacity to heal themselves - it takes time - but its possible. Obviously we want to keep out blood sugars down but we get scared by these doctors into taking pills and injecting, when the answer is usually a lot more simple.

So I found an amazing acupuncturist and weaned myself off the drugs. I then watched a film called forks over knives and became a no fat no added oil vegan - Plant eater the next day. I'm not silly about it I listen to my body if I feel I need to eat and egg I an egg etc... but, its rare I have an amazing diet now.

I had great diet before - but I was pouring olive oil on everything because I thought it was healthy and it completely bunged me up - I also think a few other factors cause dthe diabetes - which I could go into but it would make this far too long!

With a combination of gentle exercise everyday and cutting out all fats and added oils, after three months I had morning readings of 90. With no dumping. Your body has the capacity to heal its self. It takes a lot of discipline - it nearly killed me but I did it.

If you want to get rid of your morning dumping forever and control this disease without taking the drugs, Please watch the film Forks over Knives- look at dr mc dougalls web site, read the china Study, DR esselsyne's book on heart disease - its all linked. Its all about the food. And find a really good acupuncturist. I have posted this before on this web site but people just want to discuss the drugs. Well I think, if you can - if you have the inspiration and the confidence - the best way to deal with anything is to treat the cause not the symptoms. You'll never get rid of Diabetes taking drugs .. I am now drug free ! And my diabetes is getting better. I have to watch my carbs and my sugars, but I read back to my medical notes when I was first admitted into hospital and they say ' This girl will be drug depended for the rest her life"

Well I'm not and you don't have to be either.
