I just inserted my first silhouette set after using quicksets for the last few years, It wasn’t as scary as I thought! My question is, how far in should it go? Should it be completely flush with the skin? I ask because I can see a small piece of the cannula through the little “window” on the site, and now I’m wondering if I did it right??
I will be watching my #'s closely for the next few hours to be sure, but was hoping someone could give me some input.
It should be fine - when I was on sils (back before the shorter 13mm ones were out) I sometimes didn’t insert it fully on purpose (I’d get kinked cannulas if it was in too far), and I never had any problems
The needles are scary on the sils… but I quickly got over it once I realized it’s really no worse than a straight-in set, it just looks like it will be.
I just tried my first Silhouette over the weekend (13mm). I used the Sil-serter to insert. That went perfectly. But I really messed the site up in trying to remove the paper backing to the adhesive tape. Thoroughly traumatized by the event. My next set change was back to the Quicksets. With the backing removed prior to insertion, I believe there is less trauma to the site. I understand the ability to change the depth via the insertion angle is a nice feature, but I don’t have any problems with my 6mm Quicksets. So I’ll probably stay with them, unless I find an easier way to remove the backing from the Silhouette…
I will do a video of it during my next site change = WEDNESDAY.
I do not do it the way they tell you to do it, but have never had a problem and never have ripped any back out
I just inserted my 2nd silhouette…woo hoo!
My numbers were pretty good with the last one, and I am happy with the fact that I feel like I now have more sites to choose from. I’m pretty lean, and the quicksets were giving me problems. I am watching today’s site closely, again, because when I pulled out the needle, it was sort of bent. I’ll keep everyone posted on the status of that!
I assure you the scars are from my recent gallbladder surgery, they have nothing to do with Silhouette insertions. Please let me know if you have anymore questions. I did record using a laptop since I can’t make it up to my office yet.
I have an adhesive and latex allergy. Prior to doing any insertion, I must place Tegaderm HP underneath any site. The shiny thing on my stomach is the tegaderm HP wiped with skin-tac HP
I used regular scotch tape to tape the top to the infusion set just to get it out of the way. I had to switch hands to make this show up in the video, as I’m naturally a lefty.
It does take practice, You can put the Sil just about anywhere.
