Question for those who pump

Exactly. I’m not familiar with the functions of the OmniPod. I was referring to the alerts on the Dexcom. You can set the alerts at any level for both high and low bg’s. What I meant by conservative, for example with his low alert, to have the Dex notify of say 95 instead of 80. These numbers are just examples, obviously I’m not you or your son. The numbers you have on the auto correct look good. Be sure the 2mg per minute is selected on both the rise and fall settings.

2mg per min on the Dex?

I purchase about 100 syringes per year. I use 20- 40 for insulin injections each year and the remainder I use for arthritis injections.

Yes. In the alerts settings on the Dex, under rise and fall, you have a choice between 2mg or 3 mg per minute.

@T1DMom, congrats on pump start. There’s a lot of good advice here concerning management. I would just like to point out a few things about the 504 plan. Since your son already has an IEP, the accommodations that would normally go into a 504 should instead be written into his IEP. The IEP actually offers stronger protections than a 504 plan.

The site I’ve linked be low is one the best for info on both IEPs & 504 plans. If you have questions or need any assistance, I’ll be happy to do what I can.

Ok great, it’s on and in the 2 hour warm up stage now! He didn’t feel anything he said! Awesome! I built up all that anxiety for nothing! Whew!

Not for nothing. You care very much for your child. I’d be worried if you didn’t have the weight of the world crushing down on you. Make sure all the alerts are enabled on Dex. This is going to be your first line of defense against any BG issues.

@T1DMom What @Jason99 said! “Not for nothing…”

You’re doing wonderful! I’m so glad to hear how well your son did with both the OmniPod and Dex! :+1:

I would have killed for this tech when I was diagnosed at the age of 5 in 1983. The technology doesn’t make the disease any easier, but it definitely improves our quality of life.

Thanks for the help! I can’t figure out now how to set up the app on my phone, we started with the receiver, and I have just found out his IPad is not gonna work with the G6 app but my phone will until I can get him one compatible. What do I do to get the app started? When I go into the app it tries to take me thru the set up of the sensor and all that again?

The only way to set up the share function, is for him to use a cellphone with a data connection. You should be able to use the OmniPod receiver and your phone at the same time. Go through the steps on your phone. It will not start over from scratch. Once the phone app is setup, it takes about 5-10 minutes for the readings to be displayed. Download the clarity app as well, you’re going to need that.

So, I can’t use the Dexcom G6 app with my IPhone until I get him one? He is always with me, we set it up on the receiver that it came with, it says in the booklet you can have it on both but it does not go thru the steps of how to set up the app once you have already done the receiver. Sorry I am confused lol

If you are going to use your phone as the receiver, you should be able to set it up without issue. The phone app will make you go through the setup process because this is the first time. It won’t effect anything on the receiver. Once the app is setup, the transmitter will start to send information to the phone. I’ve had to go through this with my pump when I’ve had to replace my transmitter. I realize a few hours later that I forgot to update my new transmitter ID to the pump. Your phone will be able to change settings and clear alerts. Once he gets his own phone and yours becomes the follower, changes and clears cannot be made from your device.

So, should I wait for the warm up period to end bf I set up the app on phone ? Will it mess that up ?

It shouldn’t. How much time is left on the warm-up?

It doesn’t say? Is there something that says how long is left, I forgot to check the exact time it started it was right around 9 so it should be almost done.

The blue circle fills in depending on how much time is left. If it’s half full, an hour has passed.

Can you explain what your understanding of auto correction is? I looked all over Omnipod’s website and can’t find any reference to that term.

Yes, sorry that is what the nurse called it today, it’s the calculator that adds exactly how much correction you need to a meal bolus. What is a reverse correction?

@T1DMom We’re you able to get the Dex app setup on your phone? How are the readings from the G6 looking so far?
