Update June 25th:
About two days in and still working out the basal settings. I must say I should have done a pump sooner, its so much easier and control is 10x better.
UPDATE June 23, 2009 after dinner:
Got OmniPod today ~11am, Tues June 23…I can feel it on my stomach most of the time, but I expect that to pass. So far I love it. The Insulin On Board feature is awesome and the ability to dose in small increments a syringe couldn’t handle makes it all worth it.
UPDATE: June 4, 2009:
Some Omnipod users were kind enough to email Phone numbers for me to call to speak about their expereinces and ask probing questions…THANK YOU.
All the Omnipod feedback without exception was positve.
This is a great site, I never could have gotten unbiased user feedback without it. Amazing.
Next step is to meet my Endocrinologist next week and start the process!
Original post June 2, 2009:
Hi. I am strongly considering Omnipod after 8 years MDI and 17 years Type 1. I am 41 and fairly active, exercising ~1 hour+/day, say 6x/week.
I read an Pumping article/post that suggested before selecting a pump that I speak to a couple current users to broadly assess their experiences. I have read a lot of great info posted here, but I think also speaking to someone would help me.
The Insulet rep said he would try to get a pod user to call me and I am waiting now to speak to a user, but that person is likely to be biased “for” the omnipod.
Its now early June 2009 and if you’re willing to take 5 minutes to speak about your omnipod it would help inform my pump selection. I promise to call you only once.
thanks for considering here is my email to send a phone # to.
I switched to the Omnipod about three weeks ago after 9 years on conventional tubed pumps (Minimed and Cozmo) and 10 years before that with MDI. I’m quite pleased with the pod so far. Feel free to message me on site here.
I have been using the omnipod since January of 2008 and I would not give it up for anything. After 8 years of MDI and another 4 years using Animas, tangled in tubing, having it pulled out by young children getting hooked in it or they just wanted to know what it was so they pull on it when your busy. you can’t always keep it tucked away. My daughter was on MDI for several years and put on the minimed and had the same problems with the tubing. we now use omnipod and no more problems on that part. Reading about adhesive problems, that happens with all pumps due to the humidity and the need to take alternative messures is necessary, like tapes or self stick wraps. we use these during the summer when we work out, again that was with both types of pumps. My daughter and I found that when there was a problem with our pumps we would have problems with customer service to get replacement pumps to continue pumping and the last time with mine, I had to go back to MDI for 6 months due to no replacement being sent. As soon as the omnipod was available here I called ordered and received it. I started using it within a few days. My endo had a opening due to a patient cancelling.
You can talk to anyone on this site for helpful information.
I used a MiniMed for about a year. I would always disconnect my tubing at night. get tangled up in it, etc. Then I read about Nick Jonas and the Omni Pod. I liked not having any tubing. That is what sold me. I have had very few “pod” failures, and when I have, they have been there, and sent me a replacement pod. I have been on the Omni Pod for over a year now. No tubing is GREAT. Being able to shower without problems…GREAT. Swimming with my pod on…
GREAT. The pod is a little taller than I would like, but that has not stopped me. I did find I have to suspend my pod while exercising, but that is easy to do. Hope this helps you! I LOVE MY POD. Hope you become a Pod person too.
Hi Mark,
I have used two Minimed pumps (508 and 512) in the past and have had the pod for a year now. Feel free to send me a message if you still want to talk to someone.
High mark, here in the Omnipod Users Group, you’ll find most all of us love the omnipod. You can do a little digging and find some old posts that have been started by people that have had an issue with omnipod. Most of the issues have been and are being resolved. Here is a couple of links that I recall off the top of my head.
thanks for the offer and comment…I did read omnipod posts on the site and wanted to follow up and speak to folks on phone to better judge it, which I have started to do and will continue to do.
I’ve been podding for a little over a year. I love it. I’ve had minor issues but nothing terrible. robin listed a few discussions you might want to check into it.
