And I’m very interested to hear from anyone who’s used it for whom it’s been “ho-hum”
It does aggravate me though when people who’ve never used it attempt to marginalize how well it has worked for me. I have never once in my life reviewed or posted negative comments about something that I haven’t used and don’t understand why anybody else is inclined to do so…
Thanks Karen, I just said that as a suggestion, but thanks for making fun of it. People can do want they want. My wife mentioned it to me and I suggested it, so hang me out to dry …
Karen - why are you so interested in where users talk about their experience with Afrezza? As I mentioned, naturally users are going to talk about good and bad experiences with a product when there is a possibility of said product going away.
You continue to post about Afrezza even though you’ve clearly stated that you cannot use it. Why even read the post and waste time commenting? Why do you care about Sanofi’s marketing agreement with MannKind? I’m genuinely interested.

[/quote]I just was worried that this effort would hang MannKind out to dry, they don’t need any more help! I am not making fun of what is happening. This is a BIG deal, and the maker of your choice of medication is in BIG trouble. My interest in the “market” for diabetical products is my business. When a product fails the reasons are important!
I have not used Afrezza, but know that I cannot use it for several reasons. For one, it’s specifically excluded by my insurance (and I’m barely in a position to pay the copays I do pay, let alone OOP costs). Second, I have on many occasions attempted to use several inhaled medications – even ones I have (and sometimes still) need FOR beathing issues, and to date it has never been a wholly successful, nor particularly pleasant experience for me – as a result, I am extremely apprehensive of any inhaled product of any kind.
That said, I am anything but ‘ho-hum’ about Afrezza. I WANT it to work for me, and certainly applaud its successful application for others. The panacea of FAST response to insulin and SHORT duration is a tremendous accomplishment. I switched to Apidra in hopes for “faster” response and “shorter” tail - I got just one (the latter), but even that has improved my life – and it’s nothing approached the stats of Afrezza.
Alas, I do not think Afrezza is in the cards for me – I’ll have to count on the next round of faster injectables – but I hope it remains an option for those who have come to appreciate and enjoy its benefits!
There may be other drugs out for Type 2s that work really well. But I’m guessing even a Type 2 has high blood sugars after eating certain meals or maybe just because. Afrezza does not have to be your main drug or insulin. If your blood sugar is high, you can use Afrezza to bring it down very quickly, literally within one hour. For type 1s who use the insulin pump, you can use a four unit dose of Afrezza for first phase insulin response and bolus for the remaining carbs through the pump. And use Afrezza’s for highs. Likewise, it would be wise to use Afrezza for bedtime snacks, if you are a Type 1 or late night corrections. Even for those that don’t want to use it full time, there are many very good reasons to have Afrezza around also as an adjunct therapy. The reason this drug has not been successful is you cannot find an endo willing to prescribe it and the insurance companies are refusing to pay. It’s $500 a month out of pocket for us with the discount card; and full price it’s $1,000. (we need a lot more of the 4s and have to buy another box. Currently, the 4s and 8s are packaged together.
The 4s are available alone in “1 month” boxes of 90 or in the combo boxes with 8s…
The available packaged quantities have been a source of some frustration for users— and I’m not sure how much sanofi had to do with the packaging— perhaps with a better partner on board who actually tries to do their job the packaging quantities can be adjusted to better suit users needs— that would be really nice… I consider that a much more legit issue and grounds for improvement from my experience than the fixed dosing of 4-8-12 unit cartridges
