Sex With Diabetes

I prefer to test before any of my adventures, so I know that things are full steam ahead.

bloodsugar too high = decreased lubrication, more difficult to reach essential point of orgasm. just watch out for that. too low, obvious side effect of the physical activity, so eat first.

I wonder if Iā€™m just odd. I would have thought someone would mention this if it happened to them bc itā€™s pretty obvious in me ā€“ if my blood sugar is near low, I canā€™t have an orgasm at all. There have been times that dh has felt like he was having to work too hard and demanded we stop and test. And heā€™s always right.

i noticed that i was having problems when i started having the signs for diabetes. sexually things were not working. now that my sugar is low and i am taking insulin i am back to normal in that area. things are working great. when my bs gets high i get super tired and canā€™t even get in the mood. but yes it does effect that aspect of your life.

No, this sounds right. Happens to me.

Lack of interest in sex can be the result of high A1C.

I thought Iā€™d recommend these two groups:

Sex will drop my BG at least 50 points, so Iā€™ve gone low after sex- like down into the 20s wthout realizing.
When I was on the pump, I could get tangled in it sometimes. At times, it would drop off my body and rip out the infusion site.
After intercourse, I sometimes find myself wondering ā€œAm I happy / exhausted? Or low / exhausted?ā€ I often canā€™t just cuddle afterward- must check my BG to see whatā€™s going on in there.

If my BG is high, I donā€™t want anyone touching my skin. My skin feels too tight for my body, so if anyone touches it, itā€™s really uncomfortable and I get really cranky.

Otherwise, I havent noticed anything else with Type 1 and sex.

In addition, men may suffer erectile dysfunction if diabetic neuropathy is present. All I have to say is be safe and protect your selfā€”use a condom. It will keep you from getting infections. Also, watch out for yeast infectionsā€¦

Otherwise, it is fabulous with or withour diabetesā€¦ Oh! watch the alcohol consumptionā€¦

I always test before, to make sure I will have enough energy to make it throughā€¦ I also have a glucose gel beside the bed,and I usually need a little snack after. But I am T2 and dont have to deal with apperatus getting in the way. But sex does get me low real fastā€¦but soooo worth it !!!

Keep it sweet, keep it interesting, stimulation and creativity will never leave you dissatisfied. I am a true believer in ā€œspiceā€, try some cinnamon candy, use your imagination, and never stop fantasizing on the finish line, you will not only have increased sexual stamina from the pitcher to the catcher, you will also start hitting more home runs!

And a side not, always wear your cowboy hat, laughter and confidence will go a LONG WAY!

Yepā€¦it does. Iā€™ve been diabetic now for almost 40 yearsā€¦and am so lucky not to have that many complications. Being diabetic - once you get older - definitely affects sex. Like someone else saidā€¦almost every time I have sex I get a yeast infection irregardless of what my AICā€™s are. It just happens. Also for women, when you get older you lose the ability to get ā€œwetā€ā€¦so even though you feel sexual and are into it - your body just doesnā€™t respond. This is pretty fixable with over the counter lubes and such but it does suckā€¦

i had to tweet your ā€œI had a girl ask me once if Diabetes was an STDā€¦ Yeahā€¦ I know, some people are just amazing.ā€ that is just unbelievable lol

Thanks for all the answers and advice everyone! Very much appreciated!

hmmm not sosure its not contagious I was diagnosed 1979 and after 3 pregnacies my wife was diagnosed (improperly as T2 ) in 1987! So did she catch it from me?

hilarious!

Sure it doesā€¦if nothing more than poorly managed blood sugars can contribute to mood swings, which is a passion killer.

I donā€™t know if it is the diabetes or I just donā€™t want my husband any more, but I do not want to have sex. My blood sugar is good so it could be the other thing.

Thereā€™s nothing this dragon of ours does not ā€œtouchā€ is some manner.

As a woman your BG can be effected by your normal cycle. Lubrication (dryness) issues are reported with sustained higher sugar levels.Yeast infections (as others have mentioned)ā€¦ But the basic issue is pure physiology/mood. Too low and the act itself ainā€™t happeningā€¦ because youā€™re not even ā€œin the roomā€ mentally on any level.

And IMV unconsciousness does tend to prevent pleasureā€¦ So yeah, it can effect the act itself, but more often than not itā€™s the ā€œmoodā€ which gets effected moreā€¦ IMHE.
