my daughter is 4 and we have been using the minimed pump… im not sure but when i first seen the omni i feel in love… i hated the fact that she would have tubes hanging out of her. Now that i have a better job and insurance i want to jump on the omni train… after reading some blogs o feel a little confused… can anyone help… does anyone understand y i dont want her to use minimed anymore? Ots not just about the tubing b/c we;ve has a lot of ups and downs with her control but i hate to c her carryn the pump when she doesn’t have on her pouch… someone help me with choosing
I think everyone here would agree that choosing a pump is a really hard decision. I think it’s important to try out a dummy pod or meet with an omnipod rep and see if it’s something that you like. I tried a few dummy pods and even did a saline pod insertion with my CDE when I was considering moving from Minimed to Omnipod. It’s a great hands-on experience. (Of course, ultimately, I went with a Cozmo, but that’s not an option for you anymore since Cozmo isn’t making pumps anymore.) Yes, we understand the difficult choice you have to make! But ultimately, you are going to know when you see it if it’s right for you or not!
yeah i did get the sample pod but the thing is is im not the one wearn it my daughter is n when i did try the sample it was like idk what im really look for… i just hate that the mini me feel like shes being handicap… idk i like the contious monitor thing… i really like that but i couldn’t get it threw my insurance b4 so… i’ve been kinda turned off from the mini… idk i just want to know is the pod worth the switch
The pod has its pros and cons - most of our podders here at TuD swear by it and would never go back. I like it, personally, though I didn’t choose it. But I’m used to tubed pumps and have worn them since 2000.
You want to look for the following, I’d say: You need to get a sense for how her skin does with the pod adhesive (is it comfortable on her skin, does it leave a rash, etc), whether the pod feels bulky for her or if she can play without noticing it, whether you like the feel of the PDM features and functions (since you’ll be the one controlling that for several more years), and how you like the vibe you get from Insulet (the company). The Omnipod seems to be very kid-friendly and sports-friendly, designed for active wear.
Did you read anything in our Omnipod Users group?
