Small bump from pump site?

I've been noticing that when I take my pump sites out, there is a little bit of a bump around where the tube was. Just wondering if this is normal? I've only been on a pump for a couple of weeks..

Well, metal, Teflon etc is a foreign material to our bodies and they respond accordingly, sometimes with swelling, irritation etc.

Maybe try a different infusion set or alter insertion technique?

it may be a reaction, especially if it itches . . . but for me it's usually a little bit of insulin build up - depending on how recent my last blous was.

Yes, unfortunately but it will go away in a day or so.

Been on a pump for about three years, and it has always happened to me. They usually go away the same day. It's just from the pressure of the infusion set. Completely normal :) Just watch that you dont use the same frequently or you will get scarring and have a little "skin bumps" from it.

I found that my "pump bumps" were caused by Novolog rapid acting insulin. When I switched to Apidra -- no more bumps. I don't have the definitive scientific answer, but I believe I had an allergic reaction to the insulin.

Did you lower doses too?

Sorry, I can't remember if my doses were lower. I switched insulins a few years ago. I felt like Apidra also acted more quickly and had less of a "tail" than Novolog. - YDMV

I sometimes get these too. I mentioned in passing to my dermatologist that I get them and he suggested hydrocordizone cream to get them to heal a bit faster and keep them from scarring. Just a bit of inflammation from having a foreign object in the skin for a few days.

Thanks for the replies. I noticed it was gone by the next day, so I don't think its anything serious, but I was just wondering.

I find my bump is reduced greatly by never taking more than ~3u/time. I bolus 2.5u and then the rest of what I need over 30 min = no more bump. I try to eat 30 min after the initial 2.5u, so this works well for my BG, too.
