So I Started a New Job Today

You need to pitch this to HBO and put yourself on the money end of whatever comes out of it? Booze, girls and bric-a-brac? It could be the next Sopranos!

Sounds like your boss is one big jerk!!!!!!

Your boss is the prob, not you or not the place in general. Sounds like he has an imbalance honestly - needs some meds. Are you going to stick it out? I think if you honestly don’t take him seriously, you will be OK. Good thing you have another interview! Good Luck! (I haven’t had any interviews)

I think the place has a problem, in general, and not just the manager. Any place that allows a manager to be out of control and abusive to employees, all day, yelling at them for no reason, giving them verbal warnings for things they did not do or haven’t done… or even thought of doing… is not a very stable place to work, imo. (And it wasn’t even constructive criticism… or “watching out for you” kind of advice)… I’ve applied to a couple of places that look decent, and might even have benefits… Though the hours might be crazier, this is far more acceptable to me – dealing with a steady work environment where people aren’t going psycho on me and leave me left to wonder about my own sanity had I not witnesses to corroborate to me that I am not crazy, and that they heard all that was said to me. lol

Yikes so sorry to hear this, Lizmari! I wish you the best of luck in getting OUT of this and INTO a better situation… keeping my fingers crossed for you…

I bet the manager is having issues with the home office, whatever it is. It sounds to me like the manager must see their world collapsing on them and decides that doing something is better than doing nothing, Then of course, we re - decides to do something else. I once had a co worker who did this. She worked so hard, i could not believe it. unfortunately, she never did anything. So i suspect this manager has what I will call Jayne syndrome. There probably are not enough hours in the day to accomplish much of anything. LOL

Oh and what is Bric Brac ?

rick

I just got someone yell at me, and tell me that my employer was in the right to chew me out for not disclosing that I had a ‘dangerous illness’ that could endanger myself, or others, at the time of the interview… and that they could’ve fired me on the spot… and that they would never accommodate any of my requests until my diabetes becomes something that doesn’t allow me to work… and that he claims to have battled ADA in the courtroom against employers 19 times, and that he has diabetes, too, and that he’s some kind of expert. Sigh I can never get people to stop abusing me, it seems… But I had double checked my info on their site, and I believe he’s wrong. shrug

like knick knacks

What a freaking loser. Did you get his address so we can go hit golf balls at his traitor house? Seriously. Total scumbag bully. I hope they amputate something of his.

I was thinking that it sounds like a Joseph Conrad vignette. The manager thinks he’s in charge of the outpost, but the indigenous people are running across the street to McDonald’s, the “expert” is browbeating the employees with his flabby, inflated ego and DWQ is preserving the “Heart of Dorkness” for us…

I will keep my fingers crossed for you that your interview today goes well & you get a new job. That guy sounds crazy and I think I worked for him before!

Hey, why not go out to McDonalds like the other employees and order something like a coffee, you will at least get to sit down and can test, even eat your lunch if you are discreet. No need to even drink the coffee if it is not something you drink.

Well, on the plus side the stress will probably prevent you from any hypos. I think my blood sugar level went up just reading that.

At least you got to sit down this time - two hours! I am sure you will go out of this place with a big laugh. I always look back on my crazy old managers and shake my head and laugh.

I’m really sorry, too. I used to work on my feet all day and I didn’t last more than 9 months. It’s seriously rough on the feet and back. I’d look into labor laws…maybe the employer isn’t being lawful…I can’t help but wonder. This situation you’re in sounds miserable. Good luck :frowning:

Well, let me tell you how I think - after basically killing myself at my last job - literally!

F*!k 'em. Your health is #1, that's it, that's all. Take your breaks. If they don't let you, I am sure that there is a labor organization out there (not sure where you live) that will set them straight in short order.

As for whether you are "sick" or not, none of his business. Like it or not, he has no recourse to go off like that. Again, I am sure there is a labor organization out there...

Finally, let me give you some advice that has worked out for me in my 21+ year career as a chef. (Which is notorious for NO breaks, not eating, working 18-20 our days back to back etc...) NEVER WORK FOR A PAYCHECK.

Right now you are scared, and that is exactly where that f@$ker wants you. Take the control back, fire your job (after finding ANYTHING else) and look for a new one.

Answer this: would you prefer to be dead for that paycheck?

+1 well said chef.

I think this place is like one of the mega million corporation that shut down a store because they were the only ones successful to create a union inside? Trust me, you are a MILLION times better than that place. Think of it like this... you WILL go somewhere in life, despite the a$$hole loser, pimply-faced "manager" sporting that blue coat with the following stupid smiley face button. (err.... perhaps I am getting ahead of myself?)

Think of the button like this:

Hope that makes your day?
