Source and recommentations for a new meter`

As much as I’d love to say, my doc told me to get rid of my meter, that would be a lie. Someone stole my meter? Can you imagine how surprised they were when they opened the cute little bag and found a glucometer inside rather than a phone or ipod?

Anyway, I don’t have the money right now to replace it, so you can bet I am keeping good track of my carbs…and writing everything down. But let’s face it I need a meter. What suggestions would you have on a great one? I have NO money to spend on one, am on medicaid, which won’t pay for the stolen meter…I don’t blame them…yet I need it. It doesn’t have to be rocket science, only a meter that measures my blood sugars. I had an accucheck Trucheck and loved it…easy to use, easy to read, little calibrations.

If there is a place that donates meters, I’d be able to write them with my circumstances…if you know any of those. I have a mini also, and loved it…also.

Just now my fingers are beginning to loose their black and blue marks…but that means I haven’t tested in about a week. So any help you can offer would be great!

I’ve got a spare one, never been opened. Want it?

All companies have toll free customer service numbers and most will send you a free meter. They want you to use thier strips. You would not have to pay for the meter. Hope that helps.

Your doctor may have free meters as well - make sure it is the meter for the strips you have now - all of the endos offices and many family practices are given meters by the companies. It looks like you have the one touch Ultra mini in the past - do you still have strips for these? I have a speare mini I can send you.

I ask for a new meter & strips when I see my endo. He’s got practically a warehouse of freebies.

Great suggestion from Donna to call the company & ask for a replacement, if you like your stolen one. You can Google “free glucose meters” to get one. I use Accura & they replaced mine by next day Fed Ex when it wasn’t working.

It’s like your mom warned you about drug dealers in schoolyards. Any company will give a free meter to keep you hooked on their strips.

Just call the company and tell them your story. I am sure they will send you a new meter.

There is little doubt you can get a free one. If Medicaid pays for your strips, you should be golden!

If you have to buy one, I like the Wavesense Keynote. It’s simple, uses half the blood sample of the One Touch meters, & the test strips are way cheaper than any other brand I’ve had.

You probably already have a new meter but Bayer has a free meter deal right now at simplewins.com/ContourOffer.

I haven’t been back to the site for a while, and saw your response. I did get in touch with Bayer and they are sending me one of their meters. It is most like the one I do have (had) right now. Thanks for the info.
