No tricks that I know of, you just have to take extra and after you stop the effects will still go on for a few days.

Prednisone...Help!

Hello! Does anyone know how long prednisone will affect blood sugar? I was on a 5 day course of 30 mg a day for bronchitis and stopped it 5 days ago but am running at significantly higher sugars than I am used to. How long does blood sugar stay elevated after prednisone use is stopped? I’m trying not to panic but I’m getting scared! (I am currently controlling it with diet and exercise but have not been able to exercise too well due to a broken ankle 1.5 years ago.)

I have taken 150mg of prednisone for a medical procedure I had done this morning. My bg has been going up to close to 300. To get my bg to come down I increased my basal rate to 200% and keep doing corrections. The real question I have is it safe to sleep with my basal rate this high?

Thanks for the encouragement, Richard. I’ve had some challenges around meal insulin dosing. My Thursday graph above shows how I had to add a lot of correction insulin after eating. So, on Friday I added all that correction insulin to my meal dose but my automated insulin dosing system had a “max bolus” setting of eight units and my system gave me only eight units upfront and the rest with higher temp basals.
