For the first time in my life I am ditching Medic Alert and trying Lauren's Hope for my medical ID.
It's not that I don't like Medic Alert. It's just that I've been a member since back in the early '90s when membership was free. I've never converted my membership over to a paid one. Which means I can't order bracelets or update information online. And I've never gotten around to calling during business hours to order a new bracelet. I've gone without a medical ID for almost a year now. I'm going to a conference in the U.S. in a few weeks, and my mom told me she would basically worry non-stop the entire time if I didn't get a bracelet.
So tonight I went to Lauren's Hope, spent literally hours looking, and finally settled on a stainless steel band with an oval tag and a grey emblem. Basically I went for the cheapest bracelet I could get, even though there were some really nice ones there. I fiddled forever with the wording of the text. There's plenty of space (and they have a bigger sized tag, too, if needed), but it's just getting the words shuffled around so they look right and make sense. I think I'd have even more of an issue with the actual Medic Alert bracelets, because I think they have less room. I finally settled on:
POTATO ALLERGY
HAS EPIPEN, ASTHMA
TYPE 1 DIABETES
ON INSULIN PUMP
LEGALLY BLIND
I also ordered a fully waterproof sports wristband that comes with little inserts that can be written on and are waterproof. I have broken a grand total of four Medic Alert bracelets in the past few years, and three of those have been from swimming. So I'd like something other than a bracelet that I can use when swimming.
When I went to submit my order, all my information disappeared and it said my cart was empty!
It's almost 2:00 AM (for some reason I have not been tired lately) and I really need to get to bed. So I'll try again in the morning, and I'm going to get the rush delivery so that I get it before I leave.
Hopefully, I'll like it. The nice thing is that if I like the bracelet, I can order additional bands that are interchangeable. So, if I like it, I can buy some nicer bands. And, if my medical information changes, I can order a new tag without ordering an entirely new bracelet.
