After you sign up, they will contact you when they need a small sample of blood for T1D research. If you agree, then they will send test kits to your home and, as needed, they arrange for you to give a tube of blood at your local blood drawing facility. As an added bonus, you get $25 each time you participate.

I signed up on November 25th for this to try to do something to accelerate T1 research. Within 10 minutes of submitting it, I got a phonecall for the next step. This is funded by The Helmsley Trust and Glu's T1D Exchange who is a large funder of T1D research.

Last week, they called and said they'd like a sample for research they're currently doing so they arranged to send me a test kit that I take to my local Quest Diagnostics center. I received my first test kit today and will go to give the tube of blood on Monday. It's easy and the research could eventually lead to a better way for all of us. It's a great way to try to make a difference in the New Year. Happy 2015!

Do they pay the lab? I hope so, I would gladly participate, but I can't afford additional lab fees. I 'spose I should check out the website, it will probably tell me...

Yes, all fees are paid by the study, NONE are paid by the participants. In fact, they pay you $25 for each blood sample.
