Tandem pump?

I have tandem tslim X2. Where the lurlock comes out of the cartridge and twists together to connect to the longer tubing sometimes actually often comes loose and I have to tighten it. But since that can disrupt the air inside, And possibly make a burst of insulin go through the tubing, I always tighten it with it unhooked from me then prime it to make the insulin go through smoothly again. Tandem said that’s fine to do. When I prime it about five units, there’s usually always 8 drops that come out onto a paper slowly…always …today, when priming 5 units, there were about 15-20 drops that came out very fast …does this mean the pump is over delivering at a fast rate and thinks it’s 5 units when it really could be 15ish units with that 20 drops?? And the QUESTION is…would pump still be ok to use to BOLUS with this priming/‘fill tubing’ thing happening , where pump would give WAY more bolus than you told it to, way more drops than usual like the priming,.not knowing what/how much it’s giving bc it’s too many drops ??? This makes me VERY nervous to bolus…bc it shouldn’t be priming that much for five units when it does 8 drops EVERY time…now looks like it’s priming 20 units for the 5 units …when I call tandem.to ask they know NOTHING, nor what it means or if it could do this bolusing.or if it’s ok to use to BOLUS or if it’s safe etc…. Pretty much Every time I’ve called tandem in the 8 yrs on this pump they don’t know how to answer my questions and say call back :open_mouth: or couldn’t get in touch with them at that time when I was HAVING the issue and they’d call back the next day! ..and they’re usually SAFETY questions I ask about mechanical issues…sorry if anyone here works for tandem.but it’s just the issues I’ve had…I now have a brand new tandem, few days old and it’s doing this priming issue …can I use it to BOLUS??

I understand why Tandem wouldn’t answer any questions about drops of insulin coming out the end of the pump.

Why don’t you bolus with the pump detached and measure what comes out rather than speculate based on priming which is a different process? You could bolus into a small container and then draw the insulin up into a syringe.

Sweetgal88, your description of the change in insulin delivery sounds like an air issue. If there is air in the cartridge or tubing, the insulin is urged slowly out by a rise in air pressure. When I first got a t:slim, I was told to draw air out of the cartridge twice before putting the insulin into the cartridge. Without air in the delivery line, the insulin is pushed as an incompressible fluid out of the cannula. With air, the amount of insulin delivered is less than what the pump tried to deliver from the cartridge.
Have you checked your tubing for air bubbles or gaps in the insulin in the tubing?
