Testing overnight

for whatever reason, i am lucky with regard to waking up during the night. maybe its just because i've been doing it for so long. but i just wake up automatically at around 2am/2:30am. i keep my meter next to my bedside, but test in the dining room so that the light doesnt wake up my husband.i dont test every night, unless i am having BS problems. generally once every other week or once a month. it all depends if i am having consistant highs or lows.

get yourself a small Braun alarm clock and set it for whatever hour you need to test at. it is rather soft. it will wake you up, but most likely not anyone else. good luck.

I sleep through all the CGM alarms and don't want to make it any louder since I don't want it to annoy my husband since his work/sleep schedule is not always the same (works nights one week, days the next). (But he sleeps through the CGM too!) Anyway, the drinking something before bed works for me in most cases. And the setting the alarm - I did that consistantly for like 2 to 3 am for a month or so and just got up and did a finger stick. I no longer set a middle of the night alarm, but pretty much wake up somewhere between 2 and 4 every night. And I just go ahead and do a finger stick - it becomes a habit - so even if you are a little "goofy" hopefully the meter reading will register if you need to correct a problem. I bring my meter in the bathroom so I do not have to walk out to the kitchen where it is during the day. Another thought is to set your alarm closer to 1&1/2 hours or so instead of 2 hours if you think you may be dealing with a bad site or if you think your correction bolus may have been to much. I have done this too, because I hope that when the alarm will go off, I will not be so low I cannot function if the correction bolus was to much and can see how rapid the changes are since the prior test - CGM use or not - I still use the meter for this.
