how many times pumpers test & why.i test up to 14 times daily.
When I was pumping (Minimed), I tested 10 times a day. Now that I'm back to MDI, I still test 10 times a day. There is no escape!
I test about 6 times daily.
i test up to 14 times per day too. that's what my Rx is for.
Normally I test about 4 times per day; why would you test as much as 14 times per day? That’s almost every waking hour! :-X
a day has 24 hours.because of hypounawareness. i don't feel when/if i'm too low or too high.
I test a minimum of 8 (waking, before and after each meal and bedtime) so that I can A. Determine my bolus. and B. Promptly correct highs (or lows) so I stay in range as much of the time as possible.
I test 6 times thats all my dr writes the script for.
I test 8-10 times per day and am a cgm user, sometimes more if I’m having a problematic day. That’s awesome that your insurance will cover that frequent. I thought I had great insurance but mine will only cover up to 10x per day.
5-8 times daily and I use a CGM. I always test before I drive the car (before I leave--not every time I get in to car--running errands would be a nightmare!)
If my CGM shows and upward or downward trend, I test more. Also if I am having problems (unexplained highs or lows) I will test more frequently.
So, it depends on the circumstances, but at least 5 times daily.
only fingers......i have a lot of them...HAHAHA...
I know how many hours are in a day, that’s why I said almost every waking hour. That’s unfortunate, have you considered a CGM so you coul give your fingers a break?
If you only test 4 times a day, David, how do you know if you are high after a meal and need to correct?
medicare does not cover CGM ;(
CGM does not really give your fingers a rest..
My non-thumb fingers are battered and bruised, have thick black pinholes and hurt...a lot. But that is better than the post-low trauma and pain. I tried some other spots, but they are not accurate for me. The BB King commercial got me to try, but no go.
I consistently average just over 12 tests a day. The lowest I can recall is testing 6 times when T1 was increadibly Steady Eddie for a day. I remember one day with a lot of unexpected exercise and lows and I ended up testing 20 times.
I range anywhere from a minimum of 6 to as many as 18 to 20, depending on the kind of day I'm having. I use a CGM so if my Dex is tracking my fingersticks closely *and* I'm having a really steady day, I'll test less. If highs and lows are involved, I'll test more. If I have to get up during the night, that increases the number of tests too.
My prescription is written for 8 to 10 tests per day because the diabetes educator said my insurance would balk at anything higher. Luckily, my supplier will usually let me re-order about a week early each time, but I've still had to buy extra strips out of pocket.
My insurance requires me to talk to a "health coach" over the phone every couple of months. She's a diabetes educator/nutritionist. But it floored me when she asked me "Why do you need to test so often when you have a CGM?" So she's assigned to educate me but I'm the one educating her...
WE know more about ourselves than our drs & educators.after living with t1 for over 76 years i think i could teach them a couple of things.
yeah, it all depends on what our bodies are telling us, if we're having a 'bad day' highs, lows, doing a lot of corrections, working out, changing bad infusion site, etc...i mean, i could test 4 times within an hour if I'm have a bad low that won't come up or I over correct and I'm back to square one with a high. Can't imagine only testing 4 times a day.
