Change is coming slowly. Here is a blog post on the Low Carb Dietician website. The author was asked to produce a pro Low Carb article for the ADA's Diabetes Spectrum. The blog post include a link to the article, which is just now available to the general public.
The article cites studies which seem to confirm the safety of low carb as well as point out areas that require further study. She suggests a starting point of 80 to 100 grams of carbs. Although more than many of us find is required to meet out targets, it is significantly lower than the 130 grams supposedly needed for the brain to function etc.
For those of you not familiar with this website I highly recommend it, especially the blog. It illustrates how a medical professional with an open mind and a pragmatic attitude can arrive at recommendations that are scientifically based and differ from the standard carb heavy diabetes diet.
