I have no idea what I think about this hahaha.
Cotton undies are being worn… but most of my pants are kind of tight, I wear close-fitting jeans most of the time, thats really all I have, but I’m trying to wear loose sweats as much as possible…

I will second the yogurt
I take the plastic tampon applicators… clean of course ( couldn’t use regular tampons, am allergic) threw out the tampons in the plastic and fill the applicators with yogurt - freeze
insert yogurt … careful it is cold
also instead of conventional pantiliners, I purchase cloth ones or I make mine … I got mine from Mama Elle If you are interested in patterns or more information please let me know, I’d be more than happy to help you.
Also, avoid bubble baths, that also contributes to the yeastie-beasties.
I used to get those horrible little infections, mine were more triggered by hormones, prior to my period. My ob/gyn would prescribe a 5 day antibotic for Yeast Infections, and an external cream…helped alot. My be hormone related.
Try Azo. It’s a homeopathic treatment taken orally. I thought NOTHING would help me, but it did. Along with keeping bg’s in check. Good luck!
Actually, the yeasts in bread and food are a whole different species of microorganisms than the kind that infect the female reproductive tract. It’s a fad thing to cure yeast by not eating yeast. It does not really work.
The drug resistant yeast is something named candida glabrata. Bread is made with saccheromyces cerevisiae not even a member of the candida.species.
Yogurt applied directly to the hoo-ha?? Is this for real?!
yes, aren’t you glad you don’t have a hoo-ha!
Yes…and I mean that with every ounce of my being after reading this thread.
I’m taking acidophilus twice a day, it seems to not be helping.
And its no question that it started due to high bloodsugars… but now I’m on a pump, with more stable bg’s and I check my bg allll the time, but its not going away. Very stressful.
I thought I’d mention we have a private group for ladies to discuss matters that pertain to diabetes and sexuality, in case you feel more comfortable discussing these topics there:
http://tudiabetes.com/group/diabetesandsexuality

Here’s one I’ve heard about: garlic suppositories. Use a small te@bag or mulling spice bag to keep it from getting lost. Never tried it myself, though intuitively it sounds reasonable.
If you’re having sex it can definitely be passes back and forth. I would also add that your SO puts their mouth anywhere near there and they’ve had anything yeasty to eat/drink (beer/wine) … you get the picture. I learned this one the hard way :/.
Changing underwear frequently can help too, in addition to wearing cotton undies, especially during the summer.
Good luck fighting it all away!

As sick and unfun as this issue is, I’d almost choose it over the challenges that men have with sexual function and diabetes. I’m not sure which is the lesser of two evils really but I wouldn’t wish either on anyone in their “prime” tee hee.
Before i got diagnosed i had this problem alot, and of course aftewards. I hate them just as much as uti’s. When i was younger i used to take a hot bath and put vaseline, but that stopped working before i was diagnosed with diabetes. I’ve taken the oral pill, which seems to work pretty good, but you’d have to bunker down and ask your doc about what to about reoccuring one. Good blood sugar is of course important so i avoiding sex till it clears, eat yogurt everyday!, never tried putting yogurt on but i heard it works, i would take a hot bath if it hurts (no bubbles), drink water, if it itches put vagisil on, very important to wear lose fitting clothes, cotton underwear, and i go as far to wear a panty liner (especially with the vagisil), and carry extra underwear on you just case, and i would go ahead and buy some loose fitting jeans for when it does happen

oh yeah… guys can get yeast infections too!
For this particular issue I have a whole lot of experience!
The number one thing that helped me was getting my blood sugars under control. If you need help, ask your doctor about symlin–it was the only thing that helped me virtually eliminate post-meal highs.
Second: There are a couple of strains of yeast that normal OTC’s or Rx’s are resistant to–you might need to go with the big guns. Definitely get your doctor involved in this.
Third: I don’t buy it that foods with yeast in them cause yeast infections. I am also resistant to the idea that yogurt everyday helps. The reason I am resistant to this idea is because what happens to the yeast when it goes through your GI system. It dies. And how could dead yeast (which, in bread is a totally different species (saccahromyces cerevisiae verses Candida) than the one in your vaginal system) grow and cause infections? The best advice if you are trying to avoid foods that foster YI’s is certainly to avoid processed foods, but only because then you can control your blood sugar levels better. Certainly you can try to help keep your body pH correct (which is why yeast thrive anyway: Blood sugar increases causes the blood pH to drop, and the environment in your vagina becomes more acidic, which kills off the good bacteria that normally compete with the yeast for resources. When the good bacteria dies, yeast go crazy and reproduce). Caffeine and soda may help to eliminate that acidic environment.
I know this is an old thread. I’m so behind in the times. But, I read that diabetics are very prone to yeast infections. something like 15-20% of diabetics will get a systemic yeast infection, which is ugly. Anyone out there have this problem? If you get this as a diabetic yogurt won’t work. It’s all hardcore meds
I definitely was in this club for about a year. I had an A1c over 9% for a year and it was so hard to break that plateau. Fortunately, though, I havent had any yeast issues since brining my A1c down below 8% Currently, I’m at 6.8%. It took a while to level out my body, but eventually, it did level out.
Just hang in there. I frequently got up in the middle of the night to drink water and wash with soap to relieve the itchy burning sensation. No medications helped me during those times.
It’s yet another side effect we have to deal with. Good luck and stay strong.
 Good luck and stay strong.
I had some pretty bad yeast infections the year before I was dix’d. I could never figure out how I was getting them as I never had many before in my life and I didn’t eat a lot of sugar (well, I didn’t know carbs turned into sugar than - I ate alot of bready stuff!). I also had yeast on my skin called tinea veriscolor where it wouldn’t tan in certain spots and I would stay white. I didn’t know I was D at the time - I figured I had candida (which I probably did). Tea tree oil was the only thing that got rid of that. It took a while though.
But for the yeast infections: I could never get rid of them completely, they kept coming back every other week. Those over the counter thingys never really worked that well. The best things I used were either youghurt (seemed to work at the beginning when the yeast infections first started occuring more and than it didn’t work anymore), garlic (keeps the vampires away at night too LOL!) and the probiotics.
Don’t know if you ladies have read about it before but sticking a clove of garlic “up there” really works. I never used actually used a clove of garlic but this garlic oil remedy that was actually meant for the ears. That was one of the only that kept me from itching like crazy!
Also, just to mention, that washing the area with soap can make it worse. In fact, it is recommended to never wash in the “ladies area” with soap because it upsets the Ph down there and can lead to more infections. Just plain water when you shower to clean is fine.
Anyhow, once I was dx’d, I now knew where all those new infections were coming from. (I had more UTIs too and no reason why I was getting them). I did notice that taking a probiotic (I took Power Dophilius by Country LIfe - has more than just the acidopholus in it) it helped keep the infections at bay -if I stopped taking it than they infections would return. I just took one in the morning on an empty stomach.
Now that my blood sugars are under control I don’t need it anymore (yah! because it gets expensive and i am broke!). I was still taking one at when I was first dx’d but I stopped and noticed I am still fine now. I still get some itchy once and a while but if i just rinse the yeasties off with water, it is all fine.
I also had an A1C of 9.2 at Dx’d. I am now in the 5 club!
But for you ladies who are still struggling with it. I definatley recommend the garlic - yeah, it gets stinky but I couldn’t believe how well it worked (eat garlic too if you like it - it is anti-fungal!)
Obviously what ever you are using for meds for this “pain in the area” is not working or has become immune to the meds. Can you try something else or a combo? Have you had other infections that the have given you an antibiotic? Those meds will definitely give you a yeast infection, so my doc always starts me on a anti yeast med five days after the other infection has been treated. I feel for ya, I hate those darn things, and it seems that I get more of them now, than ever before the “D” arrived. I wonder what would happen if they gave you a larger dose for a longer time…just zapped it full of meds?
men get this but don’t talk about it. something about shame, etc. But I have read that a systemic yeast infection can put a person in the hospital. damages the heart, etc. Just wondered if anyone experienced on a systemic level.
best thing i’ve found is boric acid, Get empty gel caps and fill them and insert. Two (over two days)usually stops it completely. Nothing else, except flagyll by prescription works for me. I think mine are stress related too, as my sugars can be ok and i get them. Good luck!
