Okay, so i’m about to fly to Florida after school for the summer to visit my dad. I’ve read that some people can’t get the Omnipod through Airport security… is this true? Is there any way i can get it through, or will i have to take the batteries out of my PDM while i’m on the plane? Is there anything i can do to get them to allow it through since i need it to survive?
I have flown 3 times now with the Pod, and have never had a problem. It’s been said not to bolus up in the air, but I did, and nothing went wrong. I put it on areas that would be easy to show if a problem arose…just make sure you have a note from your doctor and all should go smoothly! Have fun (:
I just returned from Indianapolis a few days back and went through TSA without a problem I was wearing both the Omnipod and also CGM and went through the scanner without even a “what’s this?” The Omnipod doesn’t set off the metal detectors and TSA scanning your carry on isn’t a problem either. Just make sure you carry a note from the doc.
Agreed with others. Not a problem. I was told by an agent no need to bring it to anyone’s attention, just explain if asked.
I flew cross country twice recently and at one of the TSA checkpoints, the security person said “you have to put your cellphone in the basket!”. I reached down while saying “it is not a cellphone, it is an insulin pump!” just as my hand touched my cellphone, which I promptly tossed into a basket and thru the xray while I walked thru with my pump on my belt right next to where the cellphone had been. The pump (MM722 w/CGMS) was never a problem with AA or TSA.
Agree no trouble here, I just didn’t say anything. I kept it out of sight, and only used it for a quick bolus with airplane snack.
If you have a doctors note explaining why you have the device, and are able to fully explain its functionality, you should be fine. More than likely they will swab it for traces of explosives, and so forth, but all in all, it should be a quick and painless procedure.
Just remember to hide the C4 in your underware just in case!!! (Sorry, I couldnt resist lol!!!)

Hahaha, I forgot about the doctor note. My doc jut write on a prescription slip that said on puma, and then signed it. Just tell them it’s your house arrest alert bracelet.
