Trouble with Leaking

So, for about two weeks I have had issues with my BG being WAY too high. At first we were thinking it could be that I had a sinus infection. I took a z-pack (I hate unnecessary antibiotics!) and I was still running high. I started to notice that if I turned my pump upside down (with the cartridge facing down) and shake it, insulin would come out. So, I changed the cartridge over and over. I used different lot numbers, I used the replacement ones sent from Animas and STILL, it would leak and my BGs were outrageous!!! I am waiting for a replacement pump to come today, but I was wondering if anyone else has had any problems like this? Also, it is my second replacement, so I am a little worried that I chose the wrong pump! I was on Disetronic H-Tron Plus for 10 years and only had to replace that once!!

Sorry about your experience. Mine has been perfect in every way. There was a issued with battery caps on the 2020 but they resolved and fixed that a long time ago. I can’t even imagine how it would fail like that. The pump itself never comes in contact with the insulin. It’s all in the cartridge. I pump simply pushes the plunger on the cartridge. I’m sure their service folks will get you all set up.

I would wonder about the tubing (or the connecting spot on the tubing) being defective. Are you using the same box of sets when you keep changing the cartridges? Maybe try a different infusion set, or try really tightening the tubing on the cartridge. Good luck!

I have tried different cartridges and tube sets from different lot numbers with the same results. I am really paranoid about how tight I screw in the tube because everyone kept saying that if you do it too tight (who knows what that is) you can crack the cartridge. I still don’t know if it is me or the pump or the tubing/cartridges. But, I have a new pump now with another new set of supplies, so I guess this is the true test! If it is me, I will find out pretty soon!

I hope that works! I will be interested to see if that helps.

You’ve got to get it pretty snug. You have to twist pretty hard to crack the cartridge. don’t worry about having to unscrew it. If you change your infusion set at the same time as your cartridge you just pull the whole thing out and dispose of it. I save mine. Don’t know why. I think I’ll do someting artsy with them some time down the road.
