Now that it's been about almost 2 months into the school year. I thought I would share Cooper's routine at school. This year is Cooper's first year of all day school since kindergarten in our state is half a day. School starts every morning at 8:50 a.m. While the morning announcements are on and they are doing the pledge of allegiance the nurse comes down and take his diabetes bag out of his book bag and takes it to her office. At about 10:05 a.m he goes to the nurse to be tested. His cousin is in his class so he goes down to the nurse with him so that way he always has a buddy. The nurse's office is in the same hall as his class so it's not to far of a walk. At about 12:05 p.m is when he has lunch. He is excused from class at 12:00 p.m to go to the nurse to get his shot and to be tested. He brings his lunch box to the nurse with him. Inside his lunch box I write down in a small notebook how many carbs are in his lunch and how many units of insulin he needs. After that he joins his class for lunch. He gets tested again at about 2:05 p.m and one more time at about 3:15 p.m before he leaves school. He also gets tested at the nurse any time during the day when he is high or low and also receives shots when necessary. If they aren't in the classroom and they are somewhere else in the school the teacher pages the nurse and she brings his testing supplies to him. The nurse is great we only had one problem with her in the beginning of the school year and it's been resolved. I talk with the nurse all day long and she texts with me.We are having a great school year so far.
Good! So glad that things are going well! Is he learning to read?
Yes, he is learning to read. He’s very smart for his age and he can already read chapter books by himself. In fact he just had a spelling test today and he told me he got them all right. He was so proud
