Under weight/ over weight

what are some of your experiences with your weight, whether it is trying to lose weight (as it most often is), or your need to put on some LBs

and, in my case, i need to put on about 5 to 10 pounds. i talk w/ my cde/nutritionist, and she is always shocked at how much food i consume while being so thin. this is only a problem for me b/c i wear the dex cgm and my MM pump and i have to get those bloody needles into my skin w/out hitting anything important, like an artery.

please help.
thanks, Daisy Mae

Being fat is no guarantee those needle are not going to gush. I hit a gusher this am with my enlite sensor this am. Actually had to put pressure on the spot to get it to stop.

I lost 10 pounds I didn’t really want (or need) to lose by being on a combo of insulin and metformin. Even eating some extra protein and fats (like avocado) hasn’t made any difference. I think I’d have to do serious strength-training to put on weight! But my main concern about being leaner is how well
I’d tolerate the placement of CGM sensors.

someone on TuD recommended to me that i can kind-of see-through my thin skin and tell where those nasty little blood vessels are before i try and slide in the needle; but i have found this only to be 1/2 useful. basically, sometimes there is either something hiding a little deeper under my skin, or i hit something, maybe a nerve, etc. sometimes, i cannot tell until i am changing sites and i remove the canula and there is a black and blue spot there.

thanks for chiming in,
Daisy Mae

my weight itself doesn’t really bother me as much as it bothers my parents who think i am not eating enough. but believe me: I AM EATING “ENOUGH.” i just can’t put on the pounds.
my problem is the exact same as yours: i have trouble finding places for my dexcom cgm. there simply is not enough fatty tissue for me to pull up, away from nerves, blood vessels, and muscle. just recently, i found that if i twist around to my back to the lower area near my left hip (i sleep on the other side) i am able to get a full weeks’ wear w/ basically no problems. i am certain, however, that i will not be able to rotate enough for this sweet spot to continue doing its job. also, and i don’t know if you’ve ever had this problem, but even if i take the quickest of showers, anything that gets my sensor even remotely wet, ruins my sensor. i have to take it off, report it to their tech support so i can get a guarantied replacement, and go through the entire sensor session again w/ a new one. UGH.

I’m at an incredibly healthy weight for my age and height, however, when I was 10lbs thinner (but still in my healthy weight range), diabetes was just easier. I’m kind of trying to lose weight, but not going to be upset if I don’t. I’m pretty muscular, I have a very physically demanding job. When I was on MDI, I was constantly hitting muscle and man does that hurt! On the pump it doesn’t happen as often and I’ve never had a painful or annoying Dex sensor.

I’m actually under weight but I gained about 10 lbs in the past few months.

so, whats your secret? how did you put on the weight? and, how did you manage your BGs?

I have no real explanation on how I gain weight but i was sick for a bit
