VOLUNTEER ABROAD AND EMPOWER YOUNG PEOPLE WITH DIABETES IN ECUADOR AND DOMINICAN REPUBLIC SUMMER OF 2012

Are you interested in working with children? Improving your Spanish? Traveling to Ecuador and/or Dominican Republic? How about learning more about diabetes?

AYUDA is seeking responsible individuals who are motivated to empower youth to live happy and healthy lives with diabetes. Please note volunteer opportunities for 2012 are limited, applications are available online. Applications are due February 1st, 2012.

AYUDA IS CURRENTLY SEEKING VOLUNTEERS WITH THE FOLLOWING:

Qualifications
-Minimum age: 16
-All education levels can apply (from high school students to medical professionals)
-All backgrounds
-No prior diabetes knowledge required
-Intermediate Spanish preferred
-Must fulfill program requirements (attend training, complete fundraising etc)

Character
Outgoing, responsible, motivated, flexible, adaptable, creative, collegial and passionate about the mission of AYUDA

2012 VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS AND OBJECTIVES

Programs/Dates
Dominican Republic (June 17th-July 7th)
Ecuador (July 17th-August 7th)

Program Objectives
1) Inspire parents and young people to realize that type 1 diabetes is a manageable condition
2) Strengthen current diabetes knowledge, beginning with the themes of leadership and self-esteem
3) Teach young people and their parents how to control type 1 diabetes in order to give them the tools to live a better quality of live.

AYUDA is dedicated to supporting local diabetes communities develop and implement sustainable programs throughout the world. AYUDA’s innovative peer learning model uses international volunteers as catalysts for motivating local youth living with diabetes to live happy and healthy lives. AYUDA’s initial focus emerged from Latin America but has expanded in scope to currently include volunteer programs in Ecuador, the Dominican Republic and Bermuda.
