I just started Victoza today and became severely nauseated about 4 hours after my injection and then started vomiting 6 hour after that. I am not on any other type of meds and my question is how long do these initial symptoms last?
What was your dose? One-third of a 'full dose' (of 1.8mg)?
I am only on .6. So far today just nausea.
When I began (late last August), I felt some stomach discomfort (on the border of nausea, but less than that) after a day or two. Then things felt ok. I went through the same when I bumped it up to 1.2mg in the second week. But I couldn't tolerate the 1.8mg dose in week three and have stuck with the 1.2 mg dose since then.
I was moved to Victoza as a substitute for Actos; though my bs control was fine with Actos + Metformin (A1C < 6), I had put on weight over the past few years. With Victoza, my bs control continues to be fine, and I lost about 40 lbs (about 22% of my pre-Victoza weight) within four months.
Do you know if you can take anything for the nausea like Zofran? My doctors office is closed and I really don’t want to have to wait until tomorrow.
I have been on Victoza .6mg for 7 days now and I am not tolerating this low does well at all. I have bad nausea which keeps me awake at night. My nurse practitioner said to hang in there until Friday (tomorrow, which can't come soon enough) and take Gravol. So tonight I will start at 1.2 mg, also with Gravol.
If I can't tolerate the higher dose, she will put me on basal insulin tomorrow. Yay, as I hear there are fewer symptoms with insulin.
I was told by my nurse practitioner to take Gravol (OTC) for the nausea.
Sorry, but I don't know anything about taking Zofran (or any other anti-nausea medication) along with Victoza. Good luck.
Do you think the gravol helps. I will go and get some. Let me know how you do on the 1.2. My doctor told me after 3 days to increase dose but I am waiting a week.
Hi momof3gs. The gravel was working at the .6 mg dose, but not at 1.2 mg. I increased my dose last night and vomited about 2 hours later, with dry heaves during the night. And this was with Gravol. All of my gastric symptoms have increased with the higher dose. Currently I am having acid reflux as well.
I think you are wise to wait a week.
