Ways to make your insulin work faster

Just a side note to this discussion: I need fairly low doses as well and do MDI. I have a durable insulin pen for kids (just change the insulin cartridge when empty) and it allows me 1/2 units. Way more accurate than using a syringe

I use a cartridge based pen also for bolusing (though I’d say it’s generically useful for people of all ages) and really like the 1/2 unit ability. I think it’s much easier to use than syringes, but there ARE syringes that can give you similar accuracy with small doses. I’ve been frustrated recently that these pen cartridges, which seem to be available only for Humalog, are not available for other rapid-acting insulins that my insurer now considers preferred to Humalog, which it will no longer cover. These formulary decisions always seem so random to me.

Not trying to sell anything, just recording my experience for what it’s worth. I have found IMs to be utterly anticlimactic. Kinda like my first root canal: everyone went out of their way to tell me their favorite horror stories and warn me how traumatic it would be. As it turned out, it wasn’t much different from having a tooth filled. Total anticlimax.

My experience with IMs has been essentially the same. No significant bother compared to “ordinary” injections, and absolutely faster-acting. Of course, that’s my experience; others’ may vary. Just reporting.

Agreed re root canals. I’ve had at least 3 and none of them were any big deal. they just took a while.
