Out of curiosity, what did you all eat for breakfast this morning? I am curious to see how we manage our BG numbers. Whether you are type 1, 2, LADA, MOBY, etc, I think it will be fun to see what we all eat.
To start it off, I had:
Tea with Stevia drops
2 egg omelette with 2 tablespoons black beans, 1/4 cup red pepper, 2 tablespoons salsa, chipotle sauce, and cheddar cheese. This was cooked in 1 tablespoon bacon fat.
I was at 8.4 this morning when I woke up, (151 i believe) so I bolused 2 units of Novo-Rapid for it. (To cover the protein of the eggs and cheese, and the carbs in the beans.)
Currently 18 weeks pregnant and unable to eat anything at all before noon due to insane insulin resistance. When I get up, I need 1 unit of Apidra for plain old oxygen and a cup of hot water. A cup of tea with a splash of milk and no sugar costs 2 units Apidra. Any small protein snack is 4 units Apidra. Carbs? Forget it - the other day, 1/8 of a bagel + 4 units Apidra raised me 60 mg/dl to 151 mg/dl.
Have just had basal changed from Lantus to Levimir which is giving me crappy morning highs. So some mornings, I’ll have had 10 units Apidra before noon and the only breakfast I’ll have had is my cup of tea with splash of milk and no sugar.
I do wonder if it’s DP and if my numbers would be better if I ate something, but I am literally too scared to put anything in my mouth before noon.
Type 2: Boiled egg - spoonful of peanut butter - half tab Metformin (I hide it in the PB to prevent side effects) - Black coffee - Large mug of Crystal Light.
2 turkey sausage patties, a round of babybel cheese and some SF jello. If I want something sweet, I’ll have a smoothie made with skim milk, NF yogurt, 1/4 cup fresh fruit, a scoop of protein powder and a tablespoon of ground flaxseed. I’m T1 and I’ve learned to keep breakfast low carb - pancakes are a once a year, huge treat!
It being Sunday: Vegetarian eggs benedict - double fiber english muffin, 2 eggs, asparagus and tomatoes, hollandaise sauce , +cappuchino= 33 carbs During the week: 1/2 refried black refried beans, 2 eggs cooked with chiles onions and tomatoes plus cappuchino - 23 carbs
Type 1 and since I woke up with a fabulous 88 on my meter I had…
1c cereal-54 g of carbs
1/2c soymilk- 10 g of carbs
Yum! I love my cereal. I’m able to reduce my carbs during the day but I can’t help myself when breakfast rolls around
LADA, but after 18 years, call it Type 1. I start every day with a mocha latte, and something to offset the acid in the coffee; today that was a handful of cherries. I bolused for 30 carbs, 10 of which was simply for caffeine. A bit indulgent, but I don’t know how else to actually start a day. Protein later…
Nothing better for taste!!I like mine little more cooked then med-rare. I eat it ever weekend as long as we have some .With the kids and wife takes about 3 a year.
Steel cut oats, plain jogurt , both with flax seed and cinnamon , 1 percent milk,1/3 banana ( since I forgot to buy apples and neighbour’s cherry tree are already without cherries ), regular black coffee x 2 …total of 77 carbs, for a total of 2.5 u of insulin ; pump’s wizard suggests 2.75 …gave less : will do an after breakfast walk immediately following with a friend’s Corgi , who has diabetes .I woke up ( you caught me on a good day with 5.5 ( x 18 ) …the question : what will my number be 1 1/2 - 2 hours later …so off I go .
1/3 cup cooked oat bran with 1 tsp hazelnut oil
1 cup broccoli with olive oil
1 egg fried in coconut oil topped with salsa, cheese and jalapeno
2 cups of coffee with 2 tubs of coffeemate each
Woke up late, was at 109 mg/dl. Ate a peanut butter sandwich and no-sugar-added jelly (contains Splenda), some cheddar cheese and a single-portion of Pringles chips. About 55g worth of carbs. Bolused 8 units RAI (Apidra).
Question, Maurie: Do you bolus for all 62 grams of peanut butter? I often eat cashew or almond butter with banana. I scoop 5 heaping tablespoons which are probably more like 10 but only bolus for 5 (15 grams).
