What do I do now?

Wow my doctors office where I get my insulin is CLOSED until monday and i have NO lantus pens left or a prescription to get any since I was getting samples, I have no idea what to do now

Hi. One possibility is to go to a pharmacy (Walmart's is probably the least expensive) and get NPH (no prescription needed for NPH or Regular). It usually takes three shots of NPH daily to cover a 24 hour period. If you are taking a fast acting insulin, you can give yourself a shot during the night every four hours or so, just enough to cover what your approx. basal needs are for that four hours.

Call your doctor's office, Most likely a doctor is on call, if your doctor's office has an answering service tell them your situation and that you need a prescription called in.

Sorry didn't see you were getting samples. You might try the calling the office anyway and having them page the doctor on call. They might make an exception and arrange to meet you there at a certain time, OR call in a prescription. I personally would try that first and use NPH as a last resort.

Well I usually take 17 units lantus at night not sure how much Novolog I'm gonna need to cover that every four hours

I live in Hudson Falls and I have a Lantus pen (for backup) that has about 250 units in it. Do you want it?

Oh my God that would be incredibly helpful is there a way you could drop if off at my house?

I think it is very generous of erinmcmahon to offer a nearly full Lantus pen. That isworth about $100. I don't think she should have to deliver the pen to you. Get off your b*tt and go get.

Sure. Can you send me your address?

Believe me when I say I cannot express with words how grateful that I am that someone is willing to do this for me. Please don't make me feel like a bad person.

You probably have that donation of insulin in hand already, but my suggestion for the future would be to go to the nearest ER and have a doctor write you a prescription of whatever it is that you need. I have done this before. One time while travelling, I lost the pouch that I had all my supplies in (and did not have a back up supply packed in another bag). I went to the nearest ER, they gave me a prescriptions and I had what I needed in one hour.

@bsc, thanks for looking out for me, but in the end it was complete non-issue. I had no idea, but NyJones26/Ken is my next door neighbor! What a crazy coincidence, and it worked out perfectly. :)

Next door neighbor? That is hilarious. What if Diabetes is some kind of plot and we all live in the same neighborhood. I know, I'm just sayin

Hi, NyJonesy26/Ken. As they're fond of saying on TV, "You can't write this stuff"! I'm glad it's turned out so surprisingly well, but I suggest getting the book "Using Insulin". The information in it can make an enormous difference in understanding diabetes and managing it.

I am glad it worked out. Understand, I have high expectations and I am blunt. I'm sure Ken is a good person. I regularly help (certain) people who are in severe co-dependent relationships and your comment just set me off.

Sometimes when we say something and it comes out different than we intend. I did not mean to make you feel like a bad person.

Good point. Never been in a mess like that, and not sure how much time I would have wasted trying to figure out how to find another doctor. Probably would just go to another CVS because I have back up scripts for everything, but glad u put that in the back of my mind.

this really is an amazing story and just goes to show it takes a village a tu village, i was feeling ? post thanksgiving sadness this morning or just sadness and this made me smile, ken hang in there i hope the season treats you well talk about having something to be greatful for, i can't imagine how anxious you must of been over the situation.

I just can't get over how this happened. Through the wonders of the internet, I met my next door neighbor who just happens to be another person with type 1 diabetes. I'm just so glad I could help! I have lived with this disease for 25 years, and it wasn't all that long ago that I was young and without health insurance...I know how scary it can be. I'm just so very thankful for the coverage we now have, this awesome online community, and the connections it has given all of us! :)

This story is amazing, is he really just next door or a couple blocks away? Either way, so cool. :)

It is seriously the house next to mine! Unreal.

Wow!
