I am completely out of insulin and am out of refills. Does anyone know of a way I can get a vile now without seeing a doctor? I live in columbus ga. Thanks!
Not sure about GA, but i believe pharmacies in here in CA will give emergency supplies (24hrs worth at least) free if you ask them. You could also find an endo office and see if they can give you a sample pen or vial perhaps, I know you said without seeing doctor, but it if it’s emergency they may be willing to help you out.
Also, pharmacies here will call in refills if there’s none left, often getting it renewed without you having to see doc. I do this all the time since my insulin varies and I never see a doc for prescriptions only.
Where did you get your current insulin? If a drug store call them and explain the situation and Ithink they might help you. When I run out I call the druggist give him the number and they fax the doctor an I go pick it up. If it is a money situation does your town have a clinic? Or call the insulin company…there should be help somewhere.
Been there, very frustrating & scary…Call your doctor and have him/her call the pharmacy for the refill…Have the pharmacy help you out…worst case go to the ER and the ER Doc should be able to give you a prescription…Good Luck
Don’t know what insulin you use, but Humulin Regular & NPH are available without an Rx most places. If you’re using a rapid acting, doses of Regular with be a bit higher. Regular doesn’t kick in as quickly, so take it 40-45 minutes before meals. It also stays in the body longer–5-6 hours. I’ve never used NPH to tell you about doses.
I can’t immagine being diabetic on insulin and not having a Dr. There are free clinics everywhere in every town. In our town they have free clinic and in Hope,Ar. where I work as a med. tech. at a hospital PRN ,they have a Christian clinic at the First Baptist church twice a mo. and our lab gives free lab tests so you can also get free BG tests plus they give free meds. Most of the clients here are migrant workers and none insured people getting free meds. Your town or one close by has one. Contact Human resources in your town. I know they have an office. If you receive any kind of assistance which seems like 3/4 of Americans are living off the Gov. you can get free insulin, even from the manufacturer. I have a Dr. and I have stopped in at his office and gotten free vials or pens so it benefits having a Dr. They all have free samples for Patients. That’s why I advise you to have a Dr. especially if you’re diabetic bad enough to be on insulin.
Did you ever heard of bartering. I have a neighbor the gets stocked way ahead on insulin pens and I can trade something she needs for a box on 5 pens. She uses the same rapid insulin that I do and never uses what they prescribe her, so her extras is always beneficial to someone. She gets blouses, pants , a fan on a stand and most everything she can’t go out and buy. You might go this route if you know of another diabetic on insulin the same as what you take. Also a friend pays another friend $5.00 a vial for excess bottles she has which helps so there are many ways to get your insulin for el cheapo.
“especially if you’re diabetic bad enough to be on insulin.” What do you mean? T1s always have to be on insulin & some T2s can control BG best on insulin. It’s illegal to sell prescription drugs.
