What Do You Carry With You?

Like it says… what do you always! carry with you besides your meter and insulin being those are a given… What objects do you always carry… i carry glucose tabs or a pack of sour patch kids… my cell and keys… i know i dont travel with much on average… oh and my dexcom! :o)

A roll of lifesavers. I keep them in my back pack all the time !

Mike&Ikes candy, cell phone, I have a homemade sticker on the back my I.D. that says “type1 diabetic”. And I always try and keep 3 one dollar bills stashed in my wallet just in case I’m out of candy.

Glucose tabs, a “D” bag with extra infusion sets, Tegaderm, Glucagon, extra test strips and assorted goodies. Cell phone.

Mom’s business card
glucagon kit
ketostix
glucose tabs
infusion set
reservoir
syringes X 2 or 3
insulin
AAA battery for pump
2 x batteries for meter
skin prep for pump
alcohol prep pads
all of the above in a 1 litre rectagular box

test meter kit is separate with health card and drivers license.

Test kit needed always, emergency kit any trip 60 minutes + from home.

P.S. we do plan for trips from home to the city and bring juice etc to be prepared. Bottom line is we live 60 minutes plus from school or activities so the test kit and emergency kit are everyday. The 1 litre box is a little longer and a little shorter than a regular sandwich box. Fits well is a school bag and easy to restock.

Okay maybe I should have said when I leave the house I carry lifesavers. When I’m gone for more than 1 hour I carry “the red bag” which has extra sets, insulin, wipes, glucon kit, dr’s emergency information and list of meds, (now most of the paper stuff is uploaded to my emergency medi-bracelet), glucose tablets, and that roll of lifesavers. Humm never thought of adding a couple of bucks there but now I have !

Yeah, few reasons I carry a couple one dollar bills is because you may never know when the debit card or credit card has no balance. Or sometimes the system can be temporarily down at a store. Sometimes it just takes a good minute or two to process. Another reason is it can be kind of hard to swipe it and enter pin# when you are really really low blood sugar.

I’d look awful silly sucking my fingers… but I lkie the idea !

Meter, pen & booklet for recording BG levels, insulin, extra needles, strips, extra lancets, lifesavers, tissues (for dabbing that blood off the finger after stabbing it). I’m planning on purchasing one of those identifying bracelets soon – early on, I read a story on this site about some poor guy that got tasered when he was having a hypoglycemic episode, scared me! This is the every day thing in terms of supplies. Obviously carry more supplies if traveling (which I did for the first time this summer as a diabetic).

I recently bought a very structured, rectangular shaped purse made of some sort of reed “fabric” that I can use to fit my medicine, etc. in when I have that rare occasion to go out at night. Hate the idea of carrying the whole house around just because I am diabetic – already been there, done that with non-diabetic babies!

Oh yeah and of course the finger stabber thingy.

In my car, I’ve got a bag of skittles, 2 juice pouches and usually a warm coke. On my person, my meter, change of batteries. I wear a medical bracelet. If we’re out of the car on a hike or something, I always carry a couple of soda or some other sugary drink.

Yea i carry Dex4s now also being my sugar has been dropping lately and even candy doesnt really do the trick (i think too much vitamin D) also my dexcom, meter, insulin, keys, diaper and wipes (for my son) wallet and hand sanitizer all in a backpack of course… i might be getting the omnipod soon and i really dont know where im gonna carry all this stuff lol i find even walking around the house now i “have” to wear pants… being i liked to walk around in my underwear that kinda blows lol anyone have any good bags they can recommend… like that are actually organized unlike mine :o) thanks all im glad this topic was a success!

yes 9/11 was bad i was on my way home from work after working 17hours so my company gave me a cab home otherwise id have been on the train below the WTC… sadddd day!

Glucose tabs, juice box, 2 extra pump sites, vial of insulin

My basic kit for the work week:

On me: Dexcom receiver, cell phone, wallet.
In the bag: 2 Extra OmniPod pumps, extra batteries, back-up meter, test strips, alcohol wipes, Unisolve, Skin Prep, vial of insulin, PDM slipped in cellphone pocket for transit to work, also various tubes of glucose tablets.

In my jacket: Extra glucose tabs (so I’m a little paranoid).

If I’m just knocking around for the a trip out and about, in my ScottEVest jacket I carry my PDM, lancet, test strips, syringe, vial of insulin. The jackets and vests have tons of pockets on the inside and out and makes carrying your stuff a whole lot easier

When i write it all down, it seems like rather a lot.

What everyone else said: meter, pump, supplies for both, juice box, ID bracelet (especially on public transport!). Bulky, but better than being without

i agree i carry alot also… but id switch up that juice box with dex4s ;o)
