Hi everyone, I have been diabetic sence I was 16 and I am now 23. I come from a whole family of diabetics and I do mean everyone! Anyways I have always wanted to have children and I am now thinking I want to try in a year or so...I talked to my Dr. the last visit and she said that it wont be as bad as i think as long as I keep working on getting my BS down and keep lossing weght. I had the Lap Band done a year ago in Sept but have only lost 40 lbs so far. My last A1C was a 7.6 witch is so much better than when I started seeing her as it was a 11.4!!!!! Sp I am doing better but still a long way to go I just wanted to post on here and get the feel of things and see what others think about all that I got going on. Thanks everyone : )
P.S.-I am a really bad at spelling os sorry for that.
Have you thought about getting on a pump? My a1c was a 7.8 before I started pumping and my last a1c was a 5.8. My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant and I started pumping a year before we started trying. I decided it was the best thing for me and I wanted to have it completely under control before I did get pregnant. Now it’s second nature to me so if I should become pregnant I’m not worried.
You’re starting things off right by thinking ahead. Just keep working on getting your numbers down however you can and you should be in good shape when the time comes. Good luck!
Yes I have thought about it the prob is that I have no ins. Right now I am getting all of my meds through the drug companys and I am not sure if there are any programs like that for the pump. My Dr, did say when I brought the baby topic up that they do like to put you on the pump for your pregnacy I just havent been back to her to talk to her more about it.
Hi I’m 25 years old and have been diabetic for 19 years (since i was 6), I say go for it once you drop your a1c a little. when i found out i was pregnant my a1c was 7.7 but 2 months later it dropped to 6.5 so it can be done, i started using the animas ping pump over a year ago and it’s wonderful, I’m also 15 weeks pregnant with the pump it makes pregnancy so much easier… i also know alot of diabetics who have had GREAT pregnancies while taking insulin shots so if you are not able to get a pump don’t let that stop you from trying to get pregnant… Good Luck!
I just started pumping (One Touch Ping) last February and my sugars have been doing a lot better. Since I have found out I was pregnant I have gotten in control. My A1C was 8.2 at the end of September and I found out I was pregnant in October, and I did another A1C at the end of November and it has dropped to 7.2 in two months. Pumping is wonderful and it makes everything so much easier. I was on Humalog and Lantus and sugars just weren't that great. Go for it and good luck~ :)
