Iāve been on T4 replacement for about 40 years, so the TSH monitors for dose effectiveness.
Since I was diagnosed in 2005 and being somewhat of a data nerd I have kept a spread sheet log that includes insulin intake and BS readings 6 to 13 times a day, along with my daily weight, steps, what I eat for each meal, snacks, medication changes, vaccines, weather and any illness. For the BS readings I copy daily the readings from my xdrip app. The data helps me calculate dosage and gives me a reference how I dosed for exercise, foods and restaurants that I donāt regularly eat and gives me a guide for self discipline. It takes me about 5 minutes a day if that to update my log. I can view my spread sheet from any computer or my phone. It helps me maintain an active lifestyle where I know what to expect from exercise and travel, and an active social life. Few people know I am diabetic as itās really not any any of their business unless they want to know about it, then I may talk their ear off.
You guys gave some great info I didnāt know about.
Thatās bogus, @Timothy. Iām glad you were able to fix it, but itās still bogus that they reported you for that. I donāt believe they had cause. Pancreatitis is not on the āno noā list for DMV and they made that diagnosis. Boooo!
I really like this idea. This is now on my list of things I can do without a Doctor.
I was TOTALLY SUCCESSFUL in my endeavor to provide no effort towards this appointment. He wrote me my prescriptions. Didnāt even ask for data. It was everything I hoped it could be. Ordered an A1c and kidney, checked my feet - that was it.
I have officially made the transition from hypervigilant data provider - bringing two weeks or a month of recording EVERYTHING and tons of data analysis to completely non-compliant, non-record keeper now that the DMV law has changed.
I love my new life of doing things NOT related to diabetes! Itās everything I hoped it could be! It was a lot of work to get here, but TOTALLY worth it!
I live in Ohio and did not receive a letter DMV sends ahead of time to renew. Online check of DL suggested clearance no longer needed. Called and asked DMV to verify and was told I no longer need medical clearance to renew. My doc had checked a box for not needing clearance (as opposed to every renewal).
After 38 years with a pump, I have never had anyone download my pump data or my BS/CGM. The gold standard is the labās A1C. My Endo no longer sees me and sent me to his PA. He says his time is better spent with those whose A1C are 7-9. My A1C lately is running 5.5 to 5.8 depending on whether I behave myself. My cholesterol/triglycerides are in normal range without statins. Iām ultra low carb and only consume saturated fats(butter, lard, tallow, schmaltz, plus olive oil). So far so good (I donāt discount luck).
This journey is different for each of us. Stand up to your Dr and insist you be treated as a peer. Remember, he/they have never been a T1D. Just book learning. (The Dr who put me on a pump in 1986 was a T1D with a pump). No gloom and doom allowed. I thought I would be dead in my 40ās. Iām 74 and still making 5 & 10 year plans!
