What's Your Favorite Love Song for Valentine's Day?

There are many members of Tu Diabetes who believe in the healng power of music, and I’m pleased to call most of them my friends.
With Valentines Day coming up, I started thinkng about my favoite love songs. At the top would probably be “At Last” by Etta James, and “When a Man Loves a Woman” by Percy Sledge. Well, then things started to snowball and my mind has been spinning all afternoon. I could no doubt list a couple hundred, so, I ramdomly pulled this one out of the hat - makes me feel like dancing…

Kathy, I loved listening to this song. Thanks for posting it!

“At Last” has got to be one of my favorites, too.

I love “The Very Thought Of You” by Billie Holiday. Whenever I hear it, it reminds me of the movie Forever Young. That’s where I first heard it.

I love the song “When a man loves a woman” By: Percy sledge

Our anniversary is February 14th, 17 years, and this song was very popular at the time, and it was our song. I know, it sounds corny to get married on Valentines Day, but it didn’t seem corny to us at the time. This is a beautiful song, and we listened to it a lot. An amazing love song.

I don’t have a favorite song because I love so many different kinds of music. Although I sure did like the above songs. I don’t believe that songs can induce love, though. If you need a song to keep you together, then is really isn’t love. Of course, since I really haven’t loved a man in over 30 years, I am almost convinced that there is no such thing a “romatic love.” … just lustful love.

So, I don’t do valentine’s day.

Wow Lois!!
What a sad story. No such thing as romantic love. I don’t need music to induce me to love my wife. I love my wife because she is who she is. We are both in our 50’s now, and just last night my son took a picture of her and came upstairs and showed it to me, and I said “What a pretty lady!” I don’t know if I’ve ever seen her look more pretty than she did last night in that picture. Had nothing to do with music, only what I felt in my heart, and it had absolutely nothing to do with lust. We don’t even have a story book marriage, I mean we don’t always see eye to eye on everything single thing, and sometimes we argue about stupid stuff, but we bring balance to each other, and we love each other, and we are both committed, and I know we’ll be together for the long haul. And yes, she is prettier today than she was 17 years ago, and she still blushes when I tell her so, and the song “I Don’t Know Much” still makes me think about her without ever thinking about sex. I still remember the first time we kissed, and how I couldn’t wait to see her at lunch, and after 17 years we still have lunch together. When I’m away from her, I still want to be around her, because she is not only my wife, but my companion and my very best friend. We still talk about everything, and I keep no secrets from her. I am romantically involved with this woman, my wife, and I don’t suspect that is ever going to change.

Awww…such a beautiful story Bobby…Your wife is one very lucky lady. I pray you will keep this flame of love alive always. I do strongly agree with you. My husband and I are married for almost 7 years now. Before being physically together we endured 2 years apart thousands of miles away. We vowed we will never be apart again. He is my beat friend, a great companion and a sincere confidante. We make each other complete.

Music has always been a part of our relationship…My favorite? Hmmm… When I look to the Sky (Train) Just the Way You Are (Billy Joel) The Scientist (Cold Play) To name a few…

“Dreaming of You” - Selena

Wow, Bobby:

You don’t have “romatic love” or “lustful love”, you have “soul love.” It’s well beyond the realm of the puppy type and the type that is held together by silly little rituals like valentine’s day. You have the type of love I saw in my parents’ marriage of 58 years. Totally indefinable!! Yes, they did the little “romantic” things but that isn’t what held them together. Like I said, totally indefinable.

P.S. Yes, cynical. I’ve been trampled on so much that I am convinced that there is nothing out there for me anymore.

LOVE ME TENDER, Elviis. We saw him in concert in Baton Rouge, La. in the '70s. He was overweight and diabetic(so I heard later). He died a few months later, 42 yrs old.
Been married for 34 ys to one woman. We are in the “soul love” stage now, I think

Herman:

Glad you caught it!!!

Lois La Rose

Oh gosh Lois. Yes, I would agree that “soul love” is in it’s own category.
When I put up this discussion, I wasn’t even thinking about the fact that I haven’t been in a relationship for several years. I guess it was more the fact that a beautiful love song just simply makes me feel good.

Oh shoot. I was only going to limit myself to one., But…
This duo is a local couple who sing contemporary folk and this song takes me to a very special place.
