I called the drs. office today and talked to the lady who deals with the pre-approval's and things like that and she called my ins. co. and because I had an allergic reaction to Lantus and the Humalog Mix isn't working.....they approved for me to get my Levemir for ONE more year.....don't know why they don't just approve it for good, who knows....but at least the Levemir was HELPING me and bsl's weren't in the 2 and 300's!!!! WAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

That is great news. I am just starting Levemir after being on NPH for a year. I still have some apprehension about how well it will work out. I really hate that insurance companies get involved to "second guess" my doctors. If my doctor thinks that something like Levemir is better than Lantus, what contribution does insurance have to the medical decision? None, in my opinion.
Good morning bsc.....I hope the Levemir will work well for you. It was for me until they stopped it, then the dr. gave me Humalog Mix which did nothing up to 45 units x 2!! It was alot more trouble than the Levemir so why shouldn't I have that? It's probably all tied in with politics or something somehow. I will be SO glad to see my bsl's go down again!!
