1-11 Hour Flatline

I now have “Hotel California” running through my head. haha!

I was too lazy too look up more of the lyrics but I figured that is one line most people would know!

Yes, damn it! LOL I don’t even like the little blips.

lol! “You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave!”

I envy you guys that are bringing it down to 120, holy cow I would be happy if my son’s dex was sitting there this week. Its been nuts–going high, staying high thru corrections, prebolusing for an hour just so he can eat with a BG in range! School isn’t cool for D. Stress, state testing, inactivity behind a desk and PE is “walking the track”. Even our high intensity workouts have been inconsistant due to homework and studying. I can’t wait (im sure him too) for summer vacation. I need to look for patterns, test basals, I/C ratios…etc. Some food choices haven’t been that stellar either but I love to cook healthy and need to get back on track with that too, for all of us. Son’s had a handful of 3-6 hr. flatlines since getting his dex three weeks ago, but we are still on the learning curve and his hormones are not helping! Hope to contribute more and ask advice. Be well, Emily (99)

Don’t be too rough on your self, Emily. The majority of us posting here are well past those high school years and are making “adult” decision for ourselves. I don’t know what I would have done with a cgm back then. I don’t know if or how it would have impacted my control. I cannot imagine being in your shoes and trying to act as the assistant pancreas to you son. I completely admire what you do and have a new appreciation for my own mom who did so much for me when I was dxd.

I think the best part about the flatliners group is that we each get to determine how to manage our own disease and get the support to do so. If your son’s target is not the same as mine, doesn’t bother me! I would hate to be held to someone else’s standard when they don’t walk in my shoes

I think finding what the goal is for this time in his life and making a plan to achieve it and then executing that plan is success. Regardless if his plan looks different than anyone else’s. I wish I had learned earlier to embrace my diabetes as my own and set my own goals. Living with the hope that I CAN manage this has made all the difference for me. Hang in there!

Thanks Danny and Kate! I know we are hormonely challenged right now and even though he eats a about 1/4 the carbohydrates his friends do, we are still having a lot of unpredictablity. Weekdays suck since there’s just not enough time to prebolus breakfast and lunch. Sometimes he is in the 200s before he corrects at school. I need to create a plan of action that he understands and can implement. Got to go, didn’t realize the time.

Dinner was quiche and salad. Then my hubby took me out on a hot date to see Thor. bg’s agreed with it all!

BGs love date night. Or maybe its Thor? The Gods of Asgard are really the Gods of Diabetes?

Nice work Kate!

+1 for what Danny said. When I was in my teens I was all over the place. No rhyme or reason to my BGs. Just angry Endos. Keeping myself between 100 and 200 was the goal. Then the theory poped up that as long as I was steady (an SD of 75 was steady then) I was good no matter what level my BGs were at. Yup, teen years are the toughest for us early DXers.

Maybe for breakfast, try to go with foods that (gulp) contain a bit of fat in them to even out the PP. Hopefully he can prebolus right before he eats then. Maybe? Id say your best plan of attack is to try to attack the variables you can control and chalk the others up to #$%@ happens. First thing is basal testing.

Also, as Danny said above, your doing an amazing job as a parent of a T1D. I cant say enough for being as involved as you are. Plus being in a place like TuD gives you access to so much info, your doing everything you can and doing a fantastic job too.

Marvel comics have been with me since diagnosis…they are all bagged and boarded in my closet. I REFUSE to get rid of them. oops, I think that was the nerd-alert calling me. haha!

Mine are the top shelf of the bedroom bookcase. The kids read them now, but I still collect Groo, some Batman, etc. Ive been to Comicon a few times too. Im totally nerdcore! LOL.

I have most of the X-Men Age of Apocalypse ones, but I haven’t read them in years. )Note to self: find and read). I did get rid of the trading cards when we moved to MD a few years back.

So, the true litmus test of nerd-dom is if a costume was involved with Comicon?

Hahaha. Im a computer nerd, so I think hope that falls slightly outside of cosplay nerds and I can retain my nerd-dom sans costume. I can however ruin most dinner conversation with discussion consisting almost entirely of network and system protocol abbreviations. My wife would give you and earful about that if youd let her. =^)

Bagged AND boarded. TY! Bonus points would have been awarded if you managed to sneak in reference to savages ( mallrats! ). haha. Sigh. I miss my old collection sometimes…

is there any other way?!?! lol!

I think I missed mallrats, not sure how that happened…note to self: check out netflix for availability…

Gasp! You own X-Men but have never seen Mallrats? Is that even possible?! (Xtinction Agenda was my favourite run i think, but I’ve been out of the comic loop for long time now)

“What… Like the back of a Volkswagen?” LOL

I think we all have Ken! Comicon was work related. Although, I did catch up with Sergio Aragones, Mad Mag artist and creater of Groo.

I’ve been out of the loop too! Haven’t been in a comic book shop since the late 90s. but i’m feeling all nostalgic right now…

Day 2 on Apidra (actually overnite). Basals down by 25% with corresponding bumps to IC & ISF. IOB reduced to 2.5 hrs (from 4 on Humalog). First nite was a little tuff riding very low with some effort to stay at 60 the following day, but things are leveling out nicely.

Would have had a 12 hour but my sensor needed changing - doh!

I agree with Kenx about the new addiction! It’s like my CGM whispers in my ear all the time now. lol
