1-11 Hour Flatline

Well, this line definitely does not belong in the roller coasters! Way to boring for an amusement park ride! I like how you never went lower than your bottom threshold.

I understand the frustration with living with imperfection. That’s why I love this group so much - I get to see that we are all working on it! ('cause sometimes when I’m surrounded by those who have perfect pancreases pancreai?, I feel alone with D). Everyone has their nemesis that foils us. But this is the place to lay it all out there and get the support and courage to make the achievements that we want. Thanks for being a part of that, kenx!

Oh, wow. Great work. After only having the pump for a week, I think I was all over the place. You look like youve got a good handle on it so far.

I think there is a thread here somewhere (in TuD) about what common basal settings are for folks. I personally, use a 6 hour model where the basal rates change ever 6 hours (12am-6am-12pm-6pm). Although, recently Ive been thinking I need to make some changes to it - just need the time to do it. If you have the time, Id say try some basal testing in the next few weeks. Please ask away for more details, if you dont have a method already.

On the Dex note, the first few days, to a week, can be off. It just ends up that way. But the following weeks are always good. Try to calibrate when you BGs are flat for the most accurate results from the Dex.

A lot of folks are more sensitive to carbs in the evening. Meaning they will spike you more, although, it sounds like your the opposite. Although, that might just be to high a basal as you noted. General rule of thumb is to monitor the trend for at least 3 days then log and make a small change. HTH.

OK Natalie, posting here  My first 3 hours on the dex. 18 cho at 4pm. Hope this isn’t my last post here!!

It wont be. Great looking trend and congrats on getting the dex!

Nice Line! Don’t be bashful about posting. The only time I won’t post lines is when my meter and CGM are way off. Like today :-(.

Fantastic trend! Looks like you covered the carbs perfectly - what did you eat?

In my best Bogart voice: “jrtpup, I hope this is the start of a beautiful trend-ship”

Great trend! I am sure you will have alot more to post.

LOL! A piece of whole grain toast and a couple of eggs, a tiny splash of ketchup.

I’m a big fan of brinner!

Learning already… it’s almost 24 hours with the dex. A 69 during the night (yeah, it woke me up, wasn’t sure it would). Gotta keep a meter and refill the skittles by the bed. A little DP, then a spike after my usual nut bar for bfst. 102 before, 120 2 hours later, but 140 an hour after!! Maybe I need to bolus earlier? I WILL get this line flatter LOL

flatlining is addicting, huh?!?! Your first day with the dex is WAAYYY better than my first day was! You are going to be a pro in no time FLAT! lol!

Fantatic trend jrtpup! Glad to hear it woke you. I keep the dex up by my head at night, so the really loud alarm will .wake me.

Great perseverance! You might set your high bar to 120 (Im sure youve heard this already) to ensure you could catch that 140 before it becomes 140. With the dex, it will alarm you at 120 and depending on the grade of the incline you can through some insulin at it and stop it around 125-130. then you know next time to correct differently.

onesaint, yeah I thought about that, but it came right down without extra insulin. I don’t want to get into the place of correcting for a high then correcting for a low. I DO want your input though - I’m defiitely a newbie at this! I guess with the Ping I could have done .5 unit or something? I did go ahead and set my high for 120 so I can at least keep a better eye on it. Thanks!

No worries! You are right about not wanting to start a ping pong game with BGs. Something I think I do a lot with out thinking about it. “Riding it out” is one of the things thats harder for me to deal with I guess.

As for meal correction, Id say go with your instinct. When did you dose for the nut bar? Hmm a .5u at the 1 hour mark might have brought your down to 80-90 at the 2 hour mark as opposed to 120 though (sensitivity needs to be taking into account). Food for thought, literally! =^)

Grreat job!

I agree with Onesaint about the riding it out being hard. I have had some double arrows starting in the 70s or 80s and they just go for a couple minutes then flatten out. You really have to get a feel for which ones will keep going and which ones are just trying to pull your chain.

Ok, now i’m addicted to flatlining. Dropped my upper limit to 120 as well… lol, what a fun group you all have going here! This was this morning’s 6hr trend including a jack in the box breakfast (mmm sausage) and a starbucks mocha, venti, with whip. I’ll agree with the s-l-o-w eating, it works! (Takes me 2-3hrs to drink a mocha usually more)

WOW! great job kenx! I’m totally hooked, too

I was really resistant to dropping my top line to 120. I felt that I would fail all the time (and why can’t dexcom make the top line drop by 10, not 20!!!). Anyway, i felt like “what have I got to lose?”. If it didn’t work, I would just move it back up, no harm - no foul. And the funny thing is…I hit it. Not always, but it was a smoother (hehe) transition than I thought  Well done!

Danny should have named the group “forever Flatline.” Once you check in, you can never check out! It is addicting. Great job on the line.

Nice work Ken! thats a grreat looking morning. If I hit the coffee shop its for a red eye with a few added shots. Then I drink that over the whole day. I swear, our coffee at work, is decaf. It doesnt say it on the package, but it also doesnt help to wake me up at all!

Nice work on the breakfast jack!
